AlphonsoMango.in carries two core GI-tagged Alphonso lines for Mumbai delivery during the March–June peak. Both are sourced by founder Prashant Powle directly from partner orchards across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts, weighed and graded individually, then dispatched in courier-grade 5-ply corrugated fibreboard boxes with foam-net sleeves on every fruit.

Both boxes ship in 3.5 kg and 4 kg sizes (half dozen, one dozen, or two dozen fruit). Residue testing by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd. (NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284) confirms all 28 residues within Codex limits — 27 of 28 below the limit of quantification at 0.01 mg/kg.

Ratnagiri vs Devgad Alphonso — Which Should You Order?

Mumbai repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers shows Devgad fruit is the local favourite — Mumbaikars tend to know the difference, and many specify Devgad by name. North India leans Ratnagiri. Both are GI-certified under GI No. 139; the difference is geography, microclimate and, at full ripeness, Brix.

Delivery to Mumbai

Online mango delivery in Mumbai — Alphonso Hapus box packed with foam nets

Mumbai gets 20–24 hour delivery for most pin codes — often overnight. Dispatch is via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. The box itself does the work: a 12-slot partition inside a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard box takes the pressure of transit, not the fruit. Each mango sits in a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm, length 100–120 mm by fruit size) that stops skin friction, latex cross-contamination and condensation that can trigger anthracnose.

Fruit leaves the packhouse at 70–80% ripeness, firm enough to survive the journey, and ripens fully within about three days of reaching you. If you order Devgad Alphonso from villages like Jamsande or Dahibav, the fruit goes from orchard to the Devgad packing point, then 10–12 hours by air-conditioned vehicle to Mumbai, up to 48 hours of natural hay-bed ripening there, then dispatch. Total: 48–72 hours from harvest to your door.

If transit damages any fruit: photograph or video the box and fruit within 24 hours of delivery, send it via WhatsApp. No physical return needed. We dispatch a fresh replacement or credit your account for the next order — your choice. We do not sell fresh Alphonso July to January. That is not a hedge; it is a hard fact of the Konkan season.

Where the Mangoes Come From

Prashant Powle built the sourcing network from 2017 across 55 named villages in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. In Ratnagiri taluka alone: Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mavalange, Waravade, Purnagad, Gaonkhadi and Ambeshet. In Devgad taluka: Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Hindale, Naringre, Padel, Girye, Rameshwar and more. The orchards face the sea, typically 12–25 years old, selected for Brix consistency and alternate-bearing management.

Harvest uses a Nutan/Zela pole with a catching net and cutting mechanism. The tree is never shaken. Fruit never falls. For taller trees, an indigenously developed length-extending pole fitted with a camera handles the top branches. This matters because a bruise at harvest will show up as a blackened lenticel in Mumbai five days later — something carbide-ripened fruit hides until you bite into it.

Ratnagiri Alphonso won the Gold Medal at the national One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2024. That is a district-product award — it tells you something about where these mangoes come from, not about who sold them to you.

How We Ripen the Fruit

Every mango at the Mumbai packhouse goes onto a hay bed — the traditional Aadi method — in a temperature-controlled room for 24–48 hours. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind. The hay regulates moisture around the fruit and slows the release of its own natural ethylene. This is why a naturally ripened Devgad Alphonso smells like it does: that specific floral-sweet note comes from the fruit's own chemistry, not from a gas cylinder.

Before packing, AI/ML-assisted machine scanning checks each mango for spongy tissue (internal browning) and external deformities. Post-harvest cooling at the packhouse precedes transport. Hot-water treatment after harvest reduces surface issues and extends shelf life. These are not marketing steps — they are why 46% of customers reorder and average 2.8 boxes per season.

How to Order

  1. Step 1 — Select your variety and grade. Choose Ratnagiri Alphonso (₹1,849–₹5,399) or Devgad Alphonso (₹1,849–₹5,499) on the product page, then pick your grade: Small, Medium, Extra Large or Jumbo. Box sizes are half dozen, one dozen or two dozen fruit.
  2. Step 2 — Add to cart and confirm your Mumbai pin code. The site routes your order to the right courier for your pin code automatically. If you need a corporate or HoReCa order of five dozen (roughly 15–20 kg) or above, use the bulk enquiry form on the page.
  3. Step 3 — Dispatch. Your box goes via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees — whichever serves your pin code — and arrives in 1–3 days. Most Mumbai addresses land in 20–24 hours.

Season and Availability

The Alphonso season runs February to June, with peak supply in March, April and May. By late June, volumes drop sharply as the monsoon arrives in Konkan. July to January: no fresh Alphonso is available here. We do not carry off-season cold-store fruit or blend in other varieties to extend the catalogue.

Pre-orders open before the season and ship in sequence. If you cancel a pre-order, it must be before dispatch — after dispatch, the fruit is already in transit and a cancellation is not possible.

What is the Brix level of Devgad Alphonso?

Devgad Alphonso reaches 18–24° Brix at full ripeness, typically at the upper end of that range. Ratnagiri fruit sits in the same 18–24° window. Brix varies by grade, week in the season, and individual orchard — a Jumbo-grade Devgad mango from Jamsande in May will read differently from a Medium Ratnagiri in March. We test weekly through the season, not just once at the start.

Storage After Delivery

When the box arrives, check the ripeness by pressing gently near the stem. Firm fruit: leave it at room temperature for one to three days on a flat surface, not in a pile. Once fully ripe (the skin yields slightly, the saffron-yellow deepens), refrigerate and consume within two days. Do not put unripe Alphonso directly in the fridge — cold stalls the natural ripening process and you end up with fruit that never fully sweetens.

A 100 g serving of ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C, meeting about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 RDA for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). The mangiferin in Alphonso skin and pulp has been studied for anti-inflammatory activity in cell studies (Govindappa et al., 2011) — eat the fruit, not just the juice, to get it.

Are Alphonso and Banginapalli the same?

No. Alphonso, also called Hapus, grows in the Konkan coast of Maharashtra and Goa and holds GI Tag No. 139. Banginapalli, also called Safeda or Benishan, is a large, pale-yellow mango from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with its own GI. They differ in origin, season timing, flavour profile and pulp texture.

How much does 1 kg of mango cost?

Alphonso mangoes are sold by the dozen or half dozen, not loose by the kilogram, because grading by individual fruit weight gives you consistency carbide-ripened loose fruit cannot match. On alphonsomango.in, a box of Ratnagiri Alphonso ranges from ₹1,849 to ₹5,399 depending on grade and box size, which works out to roughly 3.5–4 kg per box.
