What an Alphonso mango exporter in Mumbai needs

If you search for an Alphonso mango exporter in Mumbai, you will find traders, packhouses, freight agents and sellers, and they are not the same thing. Before you sign anything, ask each of them for the same short list.

• An Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) and registration with APEDA, the body that promotes agricultural exports.
• A phytosanitary certificate issued for your consignment by the Indian plant protection authorities.
• Treatment records where your country requires them. The USA, for example, requires irradiation of Indian mangoes, so check current rules with your importer or customs agent. Some other markets have different rules.
• A cold-chain plan: pre-cooling, packing, a reefer container or air freight booking, and a named freight forwarder.
• Clear commercial terms: FOB or CIF, quality grade, carton size, payment terms and who is liable if fruit arrives damaged.

Mangoes are a short-season fruit. Alphonso is harvested from about February to June, and the best supply is from March to May. Ask any supplier how they supply fresh Alphonso outside that window.

The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027, and we do not sell fresh Alphonso outside the season. If you plan a shipment, plan around that date and around the real peak weeks, not around a convenient calendar.

• USA, Canada and elsewhere: we do not offer these as a service. If you are an importer there, write to us with your quantity and we will say what is possible.

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.

Where the fruit comes from

Our Alphonso is sourced across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Ratnagiri is a district and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district. Both grow Hapus, the local name for Alphonso. The GI tag for Alphonso covers this region.

Both are Alphonso from the same belt. Choose by grade, box size and taste.

• Ratnagiri Alphonso: Alphonso (Hapus) from our Konkan belt.
• Devgad Alphonso: Alphonso (Hapus) from the Devgad area of the same belt.

Both are the same variety. I would not tell any importer that one origin always beats the other. Fruit quality in a given week depends on the tree, the harvest day and the grade you buy.

Grades, packing and transport

Most of the confusion in export enquiries is about grades, weights and transport mode. Here is a plain comparison of the usual options. These are general trade patterns, not a quotation.

For fresh fruit, a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on the grade. Our retail price for Alphonso starts from Rs 1,849 per dozen. The largest Ratnagiri option goes up to Rs 5,399, and the largest listing on the order-online page goes up to Rs 10,499. Check the product page for the current price. These are retail prices, not export quotations, and any export price will also include packing, freight and compliance costs.

If your need is year-round, Alphonso pulp tins do not depend on the harvest window. They have their own import rules, so check those too.

When you compare freight options, think about what the mango does after harvest. A ripe Alphonso is soft and bruises easily. Air freight shortens the journey but costs far more. Sea freight in a reefer container is cheaper, but the fruit must be picked at the right maturity so it ripens at the destination and not in transit. This is why an experienced forwarder and a clear specification matter more than the lowest quote.
