Mango Sheera for Babies (6+ Months)

Introducing Alphonso Mango for Baby, one unique recipe, is a breeze, creating a smooth and creamy mango sheera. That's perfect for introducing your little one to the deliciousness of mangoes. It's easily adaptable for older babies who are ready for slightly thicker textures.

Prep Time:  10 minutes  Cook Time:  5 minutes  Servings:  Makes approximately 4-6 baby-sized servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe Alphonso or other sweet, low-acid mangos (about 1 cup chopped)
  • 1/4 cup milk (breast milk, formula, or full-fat cow's milk for babies over 1 year) – See note below about milk
  • 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter) or unsalted butter (optional, adds richness)
  • A pinch of cardamom powder (optional for flavour)

Equipment:

  • Blender or food processor
  • Small saucepan (optional for warming)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mangos:  Wash and peel them. Remove the pit and chop the flesh into small pieces.
  2. Blend:  Place the chopped mangos, milk, ghee (if using), and cardamom powder (if using) into a blender or food processor.
  3. Blend until Smooth:  Blend the ingredients until you have a completely smooth and creamy puree. Scrape down the sides as needed.
  4. Warm (Optional):  For a warmer sheera, especially for younger babies, transfer the blended mixture to a small saucepan. Heat over low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until just warmed through. Do not boil.
  5. Cool and Serve:  Allow the mangos sheera to cool to a lukewarm temperature before serving your baby. Test the temperature on your inner wrist to ensure it's not too hot.

Tips and Variations:

  • Texture:  For older babies who are ready for thicker textures, you can use less milk or blend for a shorter time, leaving some tiny mangos pieces.
  • Sweetness:  Alphonso mangoes are naturally sweet, so added sugar is usually not necessary. If your mango is less sweet, you can add a tiny drop of maple syrup (for babies over 1 year) or a pinch of jaggery (check with your paediatrician first), but it is best to avoid adding sugar for babies.
  • Storage:  Leftover mango sheera can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently before serving.

When introducing mango sheera for the first time, offer your baby just a spoonful or two and watch for any signs of allergies or sensitivities. This cautious approach ensures your baby's safety and comfort. Important

Note about Milk:

  • Remember,  always consult with your paediatrician regarding introducing new foods, especially dairy products, to your baby.
  • Their guidance is invaluable in ensuring your baby's health and well-being.
