Alphonso mango 1 kg price comparison showing naturally ripened Hapus mangoes packed on hay beds

Alphonso mango 1 kg price at AlphonsoMango.in works out to roughly ₹800 to ₹1,030 per kg, approximately, depending on grade. We sell by the dozen, not by weight, so that figure is arithmetic from declared weights: a medium dozen at ₹2,099 weighs about 2.2 to 2.6 kg. Below is the full method, so you can check any seller the same way.

What does 1 kg of Alphonso cost, grade by grade?

Take the declared weight per mango, multiply by twelve, and divide the dozen price by that figure. The result is approximate because individual mangoes vary inside a grade, and the carton is not counted.

Grade Weight per mango Dozen weighs about 1 dozen price Approx. per kg
Small 150-180 g 1.8-2.16 kg ₹1,849 ₹855-1,025
Medium 180-220 g 2.16-2.64 kg ₹2,099 ₹795-970
Large 225-250 g 2.7-3.0 kg ₹2,499 ₹830-925
Extra large 250-275 g 3.0-3.3 kg ₹2,699 ₹820-900
Jumbo 275-300 g 3.3-3.6 kg ₹2,999 ₹830-910

Read the table honestly. The spread inside each row is bigger than the spread between rows. So there is no cheap grade per kilo, and nobody should tell you the jumbo is a bargain or a rip-off. Choose on what you plan to do with the fruit.

Why Alphonso is sold by the dozen, not the kilo

Tradition, mostly. Hapus has always been counted in the Konkan trade: by the dozen, by the peti, by the piece. A dozen of a given grade is easy to price and easy to share. A kilo of mixed Alphonso is not, because a 150 g fruit and a 300 g fruit ripen on different days.

There is also a fairness point. If we sold by weight, the box would be a lottery of sizes. Selling by grade tells you exactly what you get: twelve mangoes in a stated weight band.

How to convert any dozen price into a per-kg rate

Use this on every seller, including us. Three moves.

First, find the weight per mango. If the seller does not publish one, ask. No weight, no comparison. Second, multiply by twelve to get the dozen weight. Third, divide the price by that weight.

A worked example, using our verified prices. You want about 3 kg of medium fruit. At 180-220 g a mango, 3 kg is roughly 14 to 17 mangoes. One dozen is too few; two dozen (about 4.3 to 5.3 kg) is the practical choice at ₹3,999, which is roughly ₹757 to ₹926 per kg. Two dozen medium costs ₹199 less than buying one dozen twice (₹4,198), so the bigger pack improves the rate.

Illustrative check with made-up numbers: a seller quoting ₹900 per kg for fruit that turns out to be 100 g each has charged you ₹1,080 for what we would call a dozen. Always ask the weight. See live grades on the Ratnagiri and Devgad pages.

Kesar and pulp per kg, for comparison

Some buyers want a cheaper kilo. Two other products are priced closer to weight.

  • Gir Kesar: ₹999 for 1.4-1.6 kg (about ₹625 to ₹715 per kg) and ₹1,699 for 2.7-3 kg (about ₹565 to ₹630 per kg).
  • Alphonso pulp: ₹590 for 850 g (about ₹695 per kg) and ₹2,100 for 3.1 kg (about ₹680 per kg). Pulp is available all year.

Pulp is not a substitute for a ripe Alphonso on the plate, but it is brilliant in aamras, milkshakes and kulfi. Kesar is a different mango with its own character, grown by farmers in Gujarat. Buy it because you want Kesar, not because it is cheaper.

What moves the per-kg rate

Three things. Grade is one: smaller fruit takes slightly more rupees per kilo in our lineup. Pack size is another: two dozen beats two single dozens. Origin is the third, in the larger boxes only. A two-dozen large box is ₹4,699 in Ratnagiri and ₹4,749 in Devgad; a two-dozen jumbo box is ₹5,399 against ₹5,499.

Delivery does not move it. Delivery is free on every order and there is no packing or handling charge, so the checkout price is the price. We publish no 2027 rates yet; the 2027 season is listed to start on 1 February 2027, and the product page will show live prices when it opens.

Ripening, and what we do not use

Per-kg comparisons mean little if the fruit is forced. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. It releases acetylene and can carry arsenic and phosphorus. Controlled ethylene ripening up to 100 ppm is permitted; verify at fssai.gov.in.

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally (on hay beds, as our FAQ states). Fruit ships semi-ripe, so allow a few days at home, in a ventilated spot at room temperature. The float test is only a folk clue; a lab test is the only proof.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of 1 kg Alphonso mango?

Approximately ₹800 to ₹1,030 per kg at AlphonsoMango.in, worked out from dozen prices and declared weights. We sell by the dozen, from ₹1,849 to ₹2,999 depending on grade.

How many Alphonso mangoes make 1 kg?

Roughly four to seven, depending on size. At 180-220 g a mango, 1 kg is about five fruit; at 275-300 g it is three to four.

Why is Alphonso sold per dozen and not per kg?

Because the Konkan trade counts fruit, and grades by size bands make a dozen predictable. Sold by weight, a box could be a mix of sizes that ripen on different days.

Is a bigger mango better value per kg?

No. Using declared weights, every grade lands within a similar band of roughly ₹800 to ₹1,030 per kg. Bigger fruit is easier to slice, not tastier.

How does Alphonso compare with Kesar per kg?

Gir Kesar works out to about ₹565 to ₹715 per kg from our listed packs. It is a different mango, so compare taste preference first and rate second.

Does delivery add to the per-kg cost?

No. Delivery is free on every order served, with no packing, handling or weight charge. The price shown at checkout is the full price.

Is the per-kg figure exact?

No, it is an approximation from declared weight bands. Individual mangoes vary inside a grade, and the carton is not counted in the weight.
