Our mango online rate, by the dozen
We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. The question we are asked most is the rate, so here it is plainly. Every fresh mango we sell is priced per dozen or half-dozen, by size grade, and the rate on the product page is the rate you pay plus shipping shown at checkout. We have sold mangoes since 2019, online since 2020, to 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales.

Why the rate is per dozen and not per kg
Searches for "1 kg mango price" are common, and market stalls quote per kilogram. Alphonso is traditionally traded by the dozen and the peti, and we keep that because the thing you are choosing is fruit size. A dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Alphonso fruits generally weigh 150 to 300 g, so a dozen of the smallest grade and a dozen of the largest are different purchases, even though both are twelve mangoes.
We do not publish a per-kilogram rate, and we would ask you not to divide our dozen price by a weight to make one: it would not match what any kilogram-priced seller is offering, because their fruit size is unknown. If you want more fruit for the money, order a smaller grade; if you want a show-piece box, order a larger one. What moves the mango rate
Our listed rate is fixed per grade for the season, but the market rate for Hapus moves every week. These are the forces behind it, and they also explain why a very cheap "Alphonso" offer deserves questions.
- Fruit size. The single biggest factor. Larger fruit is scarcer on the tree and commands more.
- Point in the season. Alphonso is harvested about February to June. Early fruit is scarce, supply widens from March to May, and the tail of the season in June is often cheaper but shorter-lived.
- Origin. Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139, and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). Fruit from other regions sold under the Alphonso name is usually cheaper, and is a different thing.
- Ripening method. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. Natural ripening takes time and space, and that cost sits in the rate.
- Grading and packing. A graded dozen in a partitioned box costs more to prepare than a loose peti.
- Weather. Unseasonal rain or heat in the Konkan changes the crop, and the market rate with it.
Is the online rate higher than the market?
Sometimes, on the sticker. A loose peti at a wholesale market can be cheaper per mango than a graded dozen delivered to your door. The comparison is fair only if the fruit is the same: same grade, same origin, same ripening. Ask any seller the same questions.

The costliest mangoes, for perspective
When the rate of Hapus is in the news, the Japanese Miyazaki mango usually comes up too. Miyazaki mangoes are reported to sell for around Rs 1 lakh per kg, and that figure is quoted for individual gift-grade fruit in Japan, not for a crop sold by the dozen. Within India, Alphonso from the Konkan is among the higher-priced mangoes because of its aroma, its non-fibrous pulp and its short season, but it is a fruit for the table, not a curiosity. India produces roughly 43% of the world's mangoes (FAO figures that also include mangosteens and guavas), about 26 million tonnes in 2023, and most of that is sold at rates far below Hapus.
Season and the rate outside it
The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season, so there is no off-season rate for fresh fruit; from July to January the only Alphonso we sell is the pulp tin, from Rs 590.
