Ratnagiri fruit tends to arrive slightly earlier in the season than Devgad. The saffron-yellow skin and strong saffron-floral nose are more pronounced in Ratnagiri fruit picked from coastal laterite soil villages like Nivali and Pawas. Devgad fruit is a touch denser, preferred by buyers who want mangoes that hold for an extra day or two after delivery.

Delivery to Chennai

Mango online Chennai delivery from Ratnagiri

Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.

Each box is double-walled corrugated, ventilated at the base, and uses food-grade newspaper nesting to absorb ethylene. No ice packs — they cause cold damage on Alphonso skin. We do not use cold chain for this reason.

If the mangoes arrive firm and unripe (which sometimes happens on the 1-day cut-off boxes), place them singly on a kitchen counter at room temperature. They ripen naturally within 24–48 hours. Do not refrigerate unripe fruit. Once ripe, you can chill them for up to 2 days before eating.

We do not deliver to Chennai in July through January. No Alphonso mangoes exist anywhere in that window — any site claiming to sell fresh Alphonso year-round is selling something else.

Where These Mangoes Come From

Buy Ratnagiri Alphonso mangoes online – sourced from Konkan villages

Prashant Powle and the Powle Home Foods team source directly from 48 coastal villages spread across Ratnagiri and Devgad talukas. Villages like Nivali, Pawas, and Rajapur supply the bulk of the Ratnagiri crop. The laterite soil, high humidity off the Arabian Sea, and the 700–900mm rainfall band during the growing period combine to produce the specific sugar-acid balance Alphonso is known for — Brix readings of 18 to 24 measured at the pack house gate.

No middlemen grade on our behalf. The grading table at dispatch checks each fruit for skin integrity, shoulder shape, and the saffron-yellow blush. Fruit that passes goes into the box. Fruit that does not gets redirected to pulp. That decision — made by hand, fruit by fruit — is why the rejection rate on a peak-season consignment can run as high as 18%.

What sourcing from many villages means for quality

Sourcing across 48 villages in Ratnagiri and Devgad rather than a single orchard gives us a buffer. If Devgad orchards peak early in a given year due to erratic monsoon exit, Ratnagiri villages often peak 8–12 days later, letting us keep supply consistent through May. That spread is something a single-orchard supplier cannot offer a Chennai buyer waiting on an order.

How to Verify You're Getting the Real Thing

What a GI tag on an Alphonso mango actually means

GI No. 139, registered on 16 October 2019, covers Alphonso mangoes grown in the Konkan belt. Our GI Authorised User number is AU/5974/GI/139/260, issued under Registry Certificate 4163. You can verify this on the GI Registry portal at ipindia.gov.in. Any seller claiming GI certification without a matching AU number is making an unverifiable claim.

Carbide-free — how do you check?

Calcium carbide leaves a faint acrid smell on the skin and causes uneven yellow patches with green centres. Naturally ripened Alphonso from hay beds ripens from the shoulder down, with a uniform colour gradient. The aroma at the stem end is the clearest test: a ripe carbide-free Alphonso smells of saffron and honey from 30 cm away. A carbide-ripened fruit typically has almost no nose until you cut it, and even then the flavour is flat.

Natural Ripening: What It Means for Your Fruit

Hay-bed ripening works by trapping the fruit's own ethylene in a warm, ventilated nest. The hay insulates without moisture buildup. Fruit ripens in 3–5 days depending on ambient temperature. At 32°C (typical Ratnagiri April), the process takes 3 days from harvest to pack-ready. At 28°C in a shade-covered shed, closer to 4–5 days.

We do not use ripening chambers, exogenous ethylene gas, or any accelerant. FSSAI rules prohibit carbide — but prohibition and practice are two different things. Our FSSAI licence number is 10020022011783. Our APEDA registration is 225579. Both are verifiable and on file.

Mango Season and When to Order

When does Alphonso mango season start in Chennai deliveries?

The season runs from February to June (the 2027 season starts on 1 February 2027), with peak flavour and availability in the first three weeks of May. By late June, yields drop sharply and what remains tends toward overripe or small-calibre fruit. We stop taking fresh mango orders by the last week of June.

Can I order Alphonso mangoes for Chennai delivery?

Ordering opens when the 2027 season starts on 1 February 2027. Fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.

What about July to January?

Fresh Alphonso is not available. We offer Alphonso mango pulp and Aamras year-round, which are processed at peak season and can be shipped to Chennai at any time. No fresh mango from any site should claim to be authentic Alphonso in that window.
