For Akshaya Tritiya, order Alphonso mangoes five to seven days before the festival so the fruit ripens in time, and choose a quantity that fits your offering, your family and your guests. A dozen starts at ₹1,849 and a two-dozen pack at ₹3,499. Akshaya Tritiya falls in April or May, so check the panchang for the exact 2027 date.

Why Akshaya Tritiya and Alphonso go together
Akshaya Tritiya is the third day of the bright half of Vaishakha, which lands in April or May. By then the Konkan mango season is in full swing. In many Maharashtrian homes it is the day the season's first mangoes are offered and then eaten, and in some families mangoes are only tasted after this day. Customs vary from household to household, so follow your own family's practice.
That overlap is a gift to anyone who loves a good Hapus. The fruit is available, the day is auspicious, and people actually want to share. The catch is timing. Mangoes bought on the morning of the festival will be firm and unready.
When to order
Alphonso usually runs from February to June. The 2027 season is listed to start on 1 February 2027; check the product page for live dates. The festival date moves each year on the Hindu calendar, so look it up in your panchang and work backwards.
| Step | Timing before the festival |
|---|---|
| Place the order (before 1:00 PM IST, Monday to Saturday for same-day dispatch) | 7 to 8 days before |
| Box arrives, firm and semi-ripe | 5 to 7 days before |
| Fruit starts turning at room temperature | 2 to 4 days before |
| Check daily; set ripe pieces aside | 1 to 2 days before |
| Offering and first tasting | Festival day |
Treat the table as a plan, not a promise. Ripening depends on your room temperature and on the fruit. Order at least a week ahead, and if you are nervous, split the order across two deliveries. A shipping policy note: fresh fruit delivery can be postponed by up to 2 days, but only before dispatch.
How many mangoes do you need?
A rough rule. For the offering itself, a few pieces are plenty. For eating, count about two mangoes per adult across the week of festivities and one for each child. A household of six adults and two children celebrating over a long weekend would want something like 20 to 24 pieces, which is a two-dozen pack.
Worked example with the listed prices for Ratnagiri Alphonso: two dozen of medium (180-220 g) is ₹3,999, against ₹4,198 for two single dozens. Same fruit, ₹199 saved, one delivery. If you also want to give a dozen to a relative, add one single dozen of large at ₹2,499. Total ₹6,498 for 36 mangoes. Delivery is free either way.
The offering and the aamras
Choose your best-looking, fully ripe pieces for the offering, and keep the rest for the table. A ripe Alphonso gives itself away with its smell at the stalk, a golden gradient and a soft, springy press near the stalk. Do not refrigerate until ripe.
For the family meal, aamras is the obvious choice: pulp of ripe Alphonso, a pinch of cardamom, sometimes a little ghee, served with puri. If you need a fall-back, the year-round Alphonso pulp comes in a tin (₹590 for 850 g), though nothing beats the fresh fruit on the day. Our recipe page has more ideas.
Gifting for the festival
Sending a box to parents or in-laws? Order earlier than you think, because the courier needs to reach them and they need time to ripen the fruit. Give them the ripening instructions in a message: room temperature, ventilated, single layer, a few days. See the gifting page for boxes starting at ₹2,249. For many recipients, such as a company giving to staff, use the corporate gifting form.
Natural ripening matters on a day like this
An offering is not the place for risky fruit. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. It releases acetylene and can carry arsenic and phosphorus impurities. Controlled ethylene up to 100 ppm is the permitted method; see fssai.gov.in for the current text.
We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally (on hay beds, as our FAQ states). Festival demand is when forced fruit floods markets, so look for white or grey powder in cartons, patchy skin with a raw shoulder, and a sour, starchy bite. The bucket test is a rough clue only.
