Delivery period for Mangoes?

Delivery period for Mangoes? - AlphonsoMango.in

The delivery period for mangoes has three parts: dispatch from our Mumbai base, Blue Dart transit, and a few days of ripening at home. About 65% of PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout before you order.

What the delivery period for mangoes really includes

When people ask about the delivery period for mangoes, they usually mean one number: how many days until the box arrives. For a fresh mango there are really three stages, and only the middle one is in the courier's hands. First we pack and hand the box to the courier. Then the courier moves it to your PIN code. Then the fruit finishes ripening in your own kitchen, and that stage can take longer than the journey.

We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. Our fruit is sourced across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt. We started selling offline in 2019 and online in 2020, and we have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. This page explains each stage in plain words, so you know what to expect before you pay.

The three stages, one by one

From order to a ripe mango
Stage What happens What you control
Packing and dispatch We pack the order and hand it to Blue Dart. Give a complete address and a working phone number.
Transit Blue Dart carries the box to your PIN code. About 65% of PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout.
Ripening at home Firm fruit softens at room temperature and turns fragrant. Keep the box in a cool, shaded room and check the fruit daily.

The first two stages are about logistics, and the third is about the fruit. A mango that arrives firm is not a late delivery. A firm mango is normal for a fruit that is sent to travel. If we sent fruit that was already soft, the journey would bruise it, and you would open a box of damaged mangoes.

That is also why we do not quote a single delivery day for the whole country. India is large, PIN codes differ, and a promise that fits one address will fail at another. We would rather tell you how the system works and let the PIN code check give the answer for your address.

Blue Dart and the PIN code check

We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. The check matters because a few PIN codes, especially in remote or hilly areas, take longer than the rest, and some may not be served at all. Enter your PIN code at checkout before you pay, and the page will tell you whether we can deliver to it.

  • Use the PIN code that is printed on your address, not the code of the nearest big town.
  • Add a landmark and a phone number that will be answered, because the courier may call before the visit.
  • If you live in a building with a gate or a security desk, tell the guard to expect a mango box.
  • If nobody is home, ask a neighbour or a family member to accept it, since a fresh fruit box should not wait outside.

We have written separate pages for people in particular cities, because the questions differ. For example, buyers far from the coast ask different things than buyers in Mumbai. You can read our online mangoes delivery in India guide for the national picture.

What to do when the box arrives

Open the box on the day it arrives. Lift the fruit out, look at each mango, and put the firm ones in a cool, shaded spot. If anything is damaged, report it to us within 24 hours of delivery. That is the one time limit we ask you to keep, and it exists because a bruised mango is easiest to assess early.

Do not put firm fruit in the fridge. Cold slows ripening and can dull the flavour. Once a mango is soft and fragrant, you can keep it in the fridge for a short while, or cut it and refrigerate the pieces. Our guide to ripening Alphonso mangoes at home covers the stages in detail.

How long does the last stage take? It varies with the fruit and the room. Wikipedia notes that Alphonso takes about 15 days from harvest to ripening, so the fruit has already used part of that time before it reaches you. A warm room speeds it up and a cool room slows it down. Check the fruit every day rather than waiting for a fixed number of days.

Natural ripening and why it affects timing

Fruit that is ripened with chemicals can look ready in a day, and that is the trap. Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide gas is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Natural ripening takes a little longer, and it is the reason a box of ours may need several days at home.

If you want to know whether a box was ripened properly, look at the colour and smell the fruit. Evenly ripened fruit smells sweet near the stem. Fruit that is bright yellow outside but hard and sour inside has often been rushed. No home test proves how a mango was ripened, so the seller's honesty matters more than any trick. Our guide to identifying authentic Hapus mango lists the clues that are worth checking.

Season and supply: when fresh mangoes can be delivered

Delivery depends on the season as much as on the courier. Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside the season we do not sell fresh Alphonso, and the fresh mango listings stay closed until the new crop, so there is nothing to deliver.

Between seasons, our Alphonso mango pulp tin is available all year in 850 g and 3.1 kg sizes from Rs 590. It is not a swap for a fresh dozen, but it works for aamras, milkshakes and desserts when fresh fruit is not on sale.

Alphonso mangoes from us start from Rs 1,849 per dozen, and the largest Ratnagiri option goes up to Rs 5,399. Kesar comes in a half dozen at Rs 999 and a dozen at Rs 1,699. Pairi starts from Rs 2,799 per dozen. Check the product page for the current price, because prices can change.

  • Order early in the season if you want a wider choice of sizes.
  • Order before a festival or a family visit, and keep a few days free for ripening.
  • For a gift to another city, send us the address and enter that PIN code at checkout.
  • For larger quantities or restaurants and hotels, write to us before you order.

Choosing what to order, and how this affects the wait

The variety changes how you plan the ripening stage, though not the courier stage. Alphonso, called Hapus in Maharashtra, is the fruit most people order from us. We sell Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso, both GI-certified Alphonso. We hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). Kesar and Pairi are separate varieties with their own pages, and we make no GI claim for them.

If you are buying for an event, count backwards. Pick the date you want ripe mangoes on the table, subtract the ripening days at home, and then leave room for one extra day in case the courier is late. A box that arrives early can wait in a cool room. A box that arrives late cannot be fixed.

If you are new to the process, order one dozen first. You will see how our fruit ripens in your own kitchen, and you can plan a larger order with that knowledge. Many buyers do exactly this before they order for a wedding, a puja or an office.
