View detailsRatnagiri vs Devgad: Which Alphonso?
Both carry GI No. 139. The difference is in the growing conditions. Devgad sits where the Arabian Sea influence is strongest — those orchards in villages like Jamsande, Vijaydurg and Kunkeshwar tend to push Brix toward the upper end of the 18–24° range. Ratnagiri fruit from Pawas, Nachane and Mirya is slightly more tart-edged, which north Indian buyers often prefer with chaat masala. Our own repeat-order data backs this: customers in Delhi and Chandigarh lean Ratnagiri; Mumbai orders lean Devgad.

Delivery Across India
Every box leaves the Mumbai packhouse within 48–72 hours of harvest. The fruit travels by air-conditioned vehicle from the Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse to Mumbai — roughly 10–12 hours — then spends 24–48 hours on a natural hay bed before dispatch. We deliver across India via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.
We dispatch at 70–80% ripeness so the fruit travels firm and finishes ripening at your home within about three days of delivery. If your fruit arrives transit-damaged or fails on quality, report it within 24 hours of delivery with photos or a short video on WhatsApp. No physical return is needed — we send a fresh replacement or apply store credit to your account.
The box itself is a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard (CFB) structure at 130 gsm, with a 12-slot partition that takes the transit pressure instead of the fruit. Every mango sits in a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm) that prevents skin friction, latex transfer and bruising of the lenticels — exactly the kind of damage that turns Alphonso skin black in transit.
Where These Mangoes Come From
Prashant Powle built AlphonsoMango.in in 2017 starting with a single question: can you send a genuinely ripe Konkan Alphonso to a customer in another city without it arriving bruised or carbide-forced? The answer required building a sourcing network across 48 coastal villages of Ratnagiri and Devgad — not buying from an aggregator.
Our Devgad fruit comes from villages including Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Hindale, Kunkeshwar and Mithbav, among others. Ratnagiri fruit comes from Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mavalange, Mirya and Kalbadevi, among others. The orchards are typically 12–25 years old, sea-facing, and selected on Brix consistency and how the farmer manages alternate-bearing years. We work with 100+ partner farmer families. Their cultivation follows strict SOPs from flowering through harvest — covering which natural sprays and fertilisers are applied at each stage.
How is the fruit harvested?
Every mango is hand-harvested using a Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net and cutting mechanism. The tree is never shaken. Fruit never falls. For taller trees, we use an indigenously developed length-extending pole fitted with a camera. From tree to the Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse is about two hours.
What happens at the packhouse?
Each fruit is weighed and graded — Small (150–180 g), Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g), Jumbo (275–300 g). An AI/ML-assisted scanning system checks every mango for internal issues like spongy tissue and external deformities before it is sleeved and packed. Post-harvest hot-water treatment reduces surface issues and extends shelf life. Then post-harvest cooling before the AC vehicle to Mumbai.
How We Ripen and Pack
Natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening only, in temperature-controlled rooms at the Mumbai packhouse. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours the fruit rests in Mumbai is monitored ripening on hay — not gas-triggered.
We assumed the foam-net sleeve was just for aesthetics when we first specified the packaging. The grading data proved otherwise. Alphonso lenticels blacken when the skin rubs against another surface during transit vibration. A foam-net sleeve with flat width 50–55 mm and diamond mesh airflow eliminates that. It also prevents latex from one fruit marking another, stops condensation from triggering anthracnose, and keeps the shoulders cradled so soft-nose bruising does not set in before you open the box.
Pesticide residue is tested weekly through the season at Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane (NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284). The April 2025 report (01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025) found all 28 residues within Codex maximum residue limits. Twenty-seven of 28 were below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). Thiamethoxam came in at 0.013 mg/kg against a permitted limit of 0.2 mg/kg. We say independently tested and within Codex limits — not "pesticide-free", because one residue was detected, even though it was within limits.
Nutrition You Can Measure
Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving covers about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 RDA for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Those are the 2020 figures — the earlier 40 mg/day figure from ICMR 2010 is superseded.
Alphonso also contains mangiferin, a polyphenol that Govindappa et al. (2011) studied for anti-inflammatory activity in cell models. That is a cell study, not a clinical trial. What it confirms is that the compound exists in meaningful concentrations and warrants attention — not that eating mangoes cures inflammation. The honest framing is that a fruit with 18–24° Brix and a polyphenol load this varied is genuinely nutritious, not just sweet.
Is Alphonso mango suitable for babies?
Alphonso puree is suitable as a first fruit for babies from around six months. That is a serving suggestion, not medical advice — check with your paediatrician if you have specific concerns.
Season Window and Availability
The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then. Fresh Alphonso is then available February to June, with peak supply in March, April and May. Outside that window — July through January — we do not sell fresh Alphonso. The orchards are resting, and we will not dispatch carbide-forced or cold-stored fruit under the AlphonsoMango.in name. That is the honest limitation.
Year-round, we carry Alphonso mango pulp, aamras, cashews, dates, saffron and dry fruits. Kesar mangoes from Junagadh/Gir (GI No. 185) run on a slightly different window and are listed separately on the site.
Ratnagiri Alphonso won the Gold Medal at the national One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2024 — a district-level product award recognising the GI origin, not a brand award.
Prashant Powle was interviewed by The Economic Times in June 2026 on how an existential weather crisis that year hit Alphonso yield across Ratnagiri. The piece captures exactly why vintage variation matters and why GI-origin sourcing from 48 villages gives us more flexibility than any single-orchard buyer.

People Also Ask
Where can I find mangoes in Chandigarh?
Local markets in Chandigarh carry Dusehri and Langra during summer, but GI-certified Alphonso from Konkan is rarely stocked in retail. AlphonsoMango.in ships directly from Ratnagiri and Devgad orchards to Chandigarh — fruit harvested, packed and dispatched within 48–72 hours of leaving the tree.
Customers in Chandigarh and Delhi tend to prefer Ratnagiri Alphonso, which has a slight tart edge that pairs well with chaat masala — our own repeat-order data shows this clearly.
Where can I find fresh fruit delivery services in Chandigarh?
Quick-commerce apps deliver local fruit to Chandigarh addresses within hours, but Konkan Alphonso — GI No. 139, hay-bed ripened, AI/ML graded at the packhouse — is not part of their supply chain. D2C stores like AlphonsoMango.in reach Chandigarh pin codes via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees.
Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness and finishes ripening naturally at your home within about three days of delivery.
How much does 1 kg of mango cost?
GI-certified Alphonso from Konkan is sold by the box, and the per-kilogram cost depends on fruit grade (see the current price on the product page) — Small (150–180 g) through Jumbo (275–300 g). Local market Alphonso and other varieties like Dusehri are cheaper but are rarely hay-bed ripened or independently pesticide-tested.
Price shifts across the February–June season — early-season and late-season fruit commands a premium because volumes are lower at both ends.
Can mangoes be couriered?
Yes — Alphonso mangoes are couriered successfully when packed in 5-ply corrugated fibreboard with a 12-slot partition and individual foam-net sleeves. This stops lenticel blackening from skin friction, prevents latex transfer between fruits and absorbs transit vibration. AlphonsoMango.in ships to Chandigarh via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees.
Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness so it travels firm — if anything arrives transit-damaged, report it within 24 hours with photos on WhatsApp and a fresh replacement is sent.
