A mango peti (aam ki peti) is the box the fruit is sold in. Our Alphonso mangoes in the box come in half-dozen, one-dozen or two-dozen sizes of one grade; a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg and starts from Rs 1,849.
What a mango peti is
Peti is the Marathi and Hindi word for a box or crate, so aam ki peti, hapus peti and ambyachi peti all mean the same thing: a box of mangoes. In the wholesale markets a peti is still a wooden or cardboard crate packed by the grower. For a courier journey across India we pack differently: a corrugated box with a hay bed, sized for six, twelve or twenty-four fruits of one grade.

How many Alphonso mangoes are in the box
The count is fixed by the box you choose; the grade changes the size of each fruit, not the number.

All fruit in one box is of one grade, so it ripens at roughly the same pace. Grades are by fruit weight: 150 to 180 g, 180 to 225 g, 225 to 250 g, 250 to 275 g and 275 to 300 g each. How much a peti of Alphonso weighs
A dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade; two dozen is about double. The box, hay and packing add to the gross weight the courier handles. Because the fruit is sold by count and grade, we do not quote a price per kilogram, and we suggest you compare sellers by grade and dozen rather than by kilo. If a listing elsewhere says "10 kg box" or "5 kg box", ask for the fruit count and the grade; without those two numbers the weight alone does not tell you what you are getting.
Hapus mango peti price
Our Alphonso starts from Rs 1,849 per dozen for the 150 to 180 g grade. The largest Ratnagiri option is Rs 5,399, and the biggest listing on the order-online page goes up to Rs 10,499. Kesar from Gujarat is a cheaper box: half-dozen Rs 999, dozen Rs 1,699. Pairi from Maharashtra (Konkan) is Rs 2,799 per dozen. What is inside the box, and how it travels
- One grade per box. Every fruit is weighed and graded before packing.
- Hay bed. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. The fruit travels on hay and finishes ripening at your home.
- Dispatch. We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. Orders received before 1 PM are dispatched the same day.
- Season. Alphonso is harvested about February to June, best from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season; the Alphonso pulp tin is available all year.

Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide (acetylene) gas is prohibited under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. Ask any seller how their peti was ripened, and ask whether the box is one grade or mixed sizes. Mixed sizes ripen unevenly, so a few fruits turn soft while others are still firm, which is the most common complaint about market crates. How to ripen a mango peti at home
- Open the box the day it arrives. Take the fruit out and lay it in a single layer in a cool, airy room, away from sun.
- Do not put firm fruit in the refrigerator; cold stops ripening and flattens the aroma.
- Check daily. Ripe fruit smells sweet at the stalk and gives a little at the shoulder. Harvest to ripening of Alphonso takes about 15 days, so some fruit may need a few days.
- Once ripe, chill and eat within two days. A dozen rarely ripens all on one day, which suits a household eating two or three fruits a day.

Japanese Miyazaki mangoes are reported to sell for around Rs 1 lakh per kg, mostly at auctions and as gifts. Indian Alphonso is far cheaper; our boxes start from Rs 1,849 per dozen. The Miyazaki figure is a reported headline price, not a market rate you would pay for everyday fruit.
