Three new years in mid-April
All three festivals fall in mid-April. That is inside the best supply window for Alphonso. Fresh Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May, and our 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. So the fruit is usually in season when these festivals come, but the quantity in a particular week is not fixed. Plan the gift early, and if you are also sending to relatives for Baisakh, Vishu and Puthandu, place those orders together so you can check every PIN code in one sitting. The same dozen suits all three festivals, so you do not need a different product for each one.
We describe the customs only in general terms. Families differ, so follow what the recipient's household does. We sell Alphonso, Kesar and Pairi; we do not sell varieties grown in Bengal, Kerala or Tamil Nadu, so this is a Konkan Alphonso, not a local variety. That difference is the point of the gift for many recipients, but tell them what is coming so there are no surprises.
Poila Baisakh mango gift box
Poila Baisakh is the Bengali New Year. It is a day for visiting, new account books in many shops and sweets. A box of Alphonso suits a family you are visiting or a colleague celebrating. Bengali families know their own mango varieties well, so a Konkan Alphonso is a change from the usual, not a replacement for it. A dozen of Ratnagiri Alphonso or Devgad Alphonso is the simplest choice. For a larger household or an elder, look at the bigger grades on the order-online page. Vishu and the kani
Vishu is the Malayalam New Year in Kerala. Its centrepiece is the Vishukkani, an arrangement of auspicious items that commonly includes fruit and is the first sight of the day. We do not sell a kani kit. As a gift, a dozen Alphonso is something the household can enjoy after the day, rather than an item for the arrangement itself. Tamil New Year (Puthandu)
Puthandu is the Tamil New Year. Mango is widely associated with the festival, and maanga pachadi, a dish with raw mango, jaggery and other flavours, is a well-known part of the meal. Our fresh Alphonso is a ripe, sweet mango and not a raw one, so it suits eating fresh, aamras or milkshakes more than pachadi. Planning and delivery
- Order ahead. Place the order well before the festival. Orders can be placed on the website at any hour, but that is not a delivery promise.
- Check the PIN code. We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout.
- No date promise. We cannot promise delivery on a particular day, because it depends on the dispatch day, the courier and the PIN code. For a list of recipients in several cities, use the gift enquiry form.
- Tell the recipient. Choose a day when someone is home. If the box arrives damaged, report it within 24 hours of delivery through the contact page.
