Boxes come in half dozen, one dozen and two dozen options. Every fruit is individually weighed, graded and packed in a foam-net sleeve inside a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard box. The box carries the transit pressure — the fruit does not. If any fruit arrives damaged, we replace it free with photo evidence within 24 hours of delivery.

Delivery to Ajmer
The route from harvest to your Ajmer address takes roughly 48–72 hours from the tree. Fruit travels about two hours from the orchard to the Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse, then 10–12 hours by air-conditioned vehicle to Mumbai, then 24–48 hours of natural hay-bed ripening at the Mumbai packhouse, then dispatch.
From dispatch: Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes. We use BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code — we pick the fastest available carrier at dispatch time. We cover 15,000–17,000 serviceable pin codes across India. We do not send fresh Alphonso mangoes July to January. That is the honest limit: outside February–June, you will not find fresh Hapus on our site.
Packaging: every mango goes into a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm, length 100–120 mm by fruit size). Those sleeves sit inside a 12-slot partition inside a top-and-bottom 5-ply CFB box with six air holes for airflow. The box is courier-grade with reinforced corners. Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness and finishes ripening within about three days of delivery at room temperature.

Where the Fruit Comes From
Prashant Powle founded AlphonsoMango.in in 2017 and built the sourcing network across 48 coastal villages of Ratnagiri and Devgad. In Ratnagiri taluka alone, fruit comes from Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mavalange, Waravade, Purnagad, Gaonkhadi, Ambeshet, Mirya, Kalbadevi, Majgaon, Kasheli and Adi. Devgad taluka villages include Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Hindale, Naringre, Girye, Rameshwar, Waghotan, Kunkeshwar and more.
The orchards in the network are typically 12–25 years old, sea-facing, and selected on three criteria: Brix consistency across the harvest window, tree longevity and alternate-bearing management. Powle Home Foods works with 100+ partner farmer families. Cultivation follows strict SOPs covering which natural sprays and fertilisers are used from flowering through harvest.
Every fruit is hand-harvested using a Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net and cutting mechanism. The tree is never shaken. Fruit never falls. For tall trees, an indigenously developed length-extending pole with a camera is used. This single practice prevents the bruising that causes spongy tissue and latex burn — the two most common complaints about mangoes bought from local markets in Ajmer.
What is GI No. 139 and Why Does It Matter for Ajmer Buyers?
GI Tag No. 139 covers Alphonso mangoes from Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. It was notified under the Geographical Indications of Goods Act. The GI Registry Certificate No. 4163 was issued on 16 October 2019. Powle Home Foods holds Authorised User number AU/5974/GI/139/260 for Ratnagiri and AU/6932 for Devgad — both are on the GI Registry's public record.
What this means for you in Ajmer: a mango sold without this number cannot legally be called GI-certified Alphonso, however it is labelled. Kesar and Langda mangoes are entirely different varieties — good in their own right, but not Alphonso.
How We Ripen the Fruit
Natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening only, in temperature-controlled rooms — no ethylene chambers, no calcium carbide, no artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours at the Mumbai packhouse is natural ripening on hay, monitored, not gas-triggered.
Post-harvest, fruit goes through a hot-water treatment to reduce surface issues and extend shelf life, then post-harvest cooling before the air-conditioned road leg to Mumbai. At the packhouse, every mango passes AI/ML-assisted machine scanning that checks for internal deformities (spongy tissue) and external blemishes before it goes into a box. Fruit that fails that scan does not reach Ajmer.
Residue testing is carried out weekly through the season by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane — NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284. The most recent published report (01/ETHAP2500044, 5 April 2025) found all 28 tested residues within Codex maximum residue limits; 27 of 28 were below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). One residue — thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg — was detected, well within the Codex limit of 0.2 mg/kg. We say independently tested and all residues within Codex limits. We do not say pesticide-free, because one residue was detected (within limits).
Season and Storage
When Can Ajmer Buyers Order Alphonso Mangoes?
The season runs February to June, with the peak between March and May. The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then. We do not sell fresh Alphonso July to January — the orchards produce nothing worth sending in that window and we will not ship something we would not eat ourselves.
How to Store Alphonso Mangoes After Delivery
Fruit arrives at 70–80% ripeness. Keep it at room temperature for up to three days. Once fully ripe — the skin yields slightly to thumb pressure and the saffron-yellow colour deepens — move it to the refrigerator and eat within two days. Do not refrigerate unripe fruit; it stops ripening and the flavour never recovers. Ajmer summers above 40°C will accelerate ripening to one or two days, so open your box and assess the fruit the same day it arrives.
Nutrition
Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 recommended daily allowance for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). The mangiferin compound in Alphonso pulp showed anti-inflammatory activity in a cell study by Govindappa et al. (2011) — that is a cell study, not a clinical trial, and we state it as such.
Alphonso puree is suitable as a first food for babies from about 6 months as a serving suggestion — not medical advice. Consult your paediatrician for individual guidance.

People Also Ask
What is the cost of 1 kg Alphonso mango?
Alphonso mango prices vary by grade, origin and season. Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso are sold by the dozen or half dozen, not loose by the kilogram, because grading by fruit weight matters more than bulk weight. A Medium fruit (180–225 g) box of one dozen typically works out to roughly 12–14 fruits per kilogram equivalent.
For current prices during the February–June season, check the Alphonso Mango collection on AlphonsoMango.in — prices update with each weekly harvest batch.
Can I buy Alphonso mangoes in the USA?
Yes. AlphonsoMango.in exports GI-certified Alphonso mangoes to the US, UK, UAE, Singapore and Japan. Fruit ships from Ratnagiri and Devgad, passes APEDA export protocols (APEDA 225579), and is independently tested with all residues within Codex maximum residue limits. The fresh export season runs February to June (the 2027 season starts on 1 February 2027).
For US orders, use the international shipping option on the site during the season window.
Which is the best variety of Alphonso mango?
Both Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso carry GI No. 139 — the difference is flavour, not quality rank. Ratnagiri Alphonso has bright acidity and a floral nose; Devgad Alphonso is richer and fuller, with less acid and Brix typically at the upper end of the 18–24° range. Repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers shows north India and Rajasthan buyers lean Ratnagiri.
If you are ordering to Ajmer for the first time, start with Ratnagiri — it is what most first-time buyers in the region prefer.
Why are Alphonso mangoes costly?
Alphonso mangoes cost more because nearly everything about their production resists shortcuts. Fruit is hand-harvested from sea-facing orchards in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg using a pole with a catching net — the tree is never shaken, fruit never falls. Every mango is then weighed, graded and scanned by AI-assisted machines for internal defects like spongy tissue before packing.
Natural hay-bed ripening, air-conditioned transport, 5-ply courier-grade packaging and a short seasonal window of February to June together keep supply tight and costs honest.
