Delivery Across India

Every order leaves our Mumbai packhouse by BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees — the courier depends on your pin code. We serve 15,000–17,000 pin codes. Metro cities typically receive their box in 20–24 hours. Most other cities take 1–3 days.

The fruit travels at 70–80% ripeness — firm enough to survive transit, fully ripe within about three days of delivery. You do not need to refrigerate immediately. Let the fruit finish ripening at room temperature, then chill and eat.

Packaging: a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard box (130 gsm, alternate flute orientation) with a 12-slot partition that absorbs transit pressure, six air holes top and bottom, and each mango in a foam-net sleeve (50–55 mm flat width) on a hay bed. The foam net keeps the Alphonso's lenticels from rubbing — lenticel blackening is the most common transit damage with unsleeves fruit, and we designed specifically to prevent it.

If fruit arrives damaged, photograph it and contact us within 24 hours of delivery. We replace 100%.

Where the Fruit Comes From

Alphonso mango from Konkan orchards — Ratnagiri and Devgad farms

Prashant Powle built the sourcing network starting in 2017. Today it covers 55 named villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts — from Pawas and Golap on the Ratnagiri coast to Devgad, Jamsande and Vijaydurg on the Sindhudurg side. The orchards sit in the sea-facing Konkan belt, with laterite soil and a specific humidity pattern that no inland orchard can replicate. Trees in the network are typically 12–25 years old, selected on Brix consistency and alternate-bearing management.

We work with 100+ partner farmer families. Their cultivation follows strict SOPs covering which natural sprays and fertilisers apply from flowering to harvest. Fruit is hand-harvested using a Nutan/Zela pole with a catching net — the tree is never shaken, and the mango never falls. For tall trees, an indigenously developed camera-fitted extending pole lets the harvester see exactly where to cut.

From the orchard, fruit moves to our Malvan packing centre or Devgad packing point within about two hours, undergoes post-harvest hot-water treatment to reduce surface issues, then travels in air-conditioned vehicles to the Mumbai packhouse — a 10–12-hour road journey. At the Mumbai packhouse, each mango is weighed, graded, and scanned by an AI/ML-assisted machine that checks for internal defects including spongy tissue, before packing.

What does the harvest-to-doorstep timeline actually look like?

Tree to Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse: about 2 hours. Post-harvest cooling and treatment. Air-conditioned truck to Mumbai: 10–12 hours. Natural hay-bed ripening in temperature-controlled rooms at the Mumbai packhouse: 24–48 hours. Dispatch. Transit to your city: 20–24 hours for metros, 1–3 days elsewhere. Total from harvest to your door: roughly 3–5 days, depending on your location.

How to Know It Is the Real Thing

The GI Tag for Alphonso — No. 139 — covers Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts only. Alphonso grown outside these districts cannot legally carry the GI designation. AlphonsoMango.in holds GI Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019, under Authorised User number AU/5974/GI/139/260 for Ratnagiri and AU/6932 for Devgad. That certificate sits with FSSAI licence 10020022011783 and APEDA registration 225579.

Ratnagiri Alphonso won the Gold Medal at the national ODOP (One District One Product) Awards 2024 — a district-level recognition of the variety's standing, not a brand award.

Each batch is independently tested at Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane — NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284. The April 2025 test (certificate 01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025) checked 28 residues. All were within Codex maximum residue limits. Twenty-seven of 28 were below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). One trace — thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg — sat well within the 0.2 mg/kg Codex limit. We do not claim pesticide-free; we claim independently tested and within limits.

How We Ripen the Fruit

No carbide. No ethylene chambers. The 24–48 hours at the Mumbai packhouse is natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening in temperature-controlled rooms, monitored through the process. The hay isn't decorative — it regulates moisture and cushions the fruit during the ripening phase. This is the same method Konkan farmers have used for generations, scaled into a controlled environment.

We dispatch at 70–80% ripeness so the fruit survives the courier journey without bruising. It finishes ripening at your home within three days of delivery — no intervention needed from you.

What we do not do: cold-store blending (mixing old stock with fresh fruit), gas-ripening, or off-season sales of fresh Alphonso. Fresh Alphonso is not available July to January. If someone is selling it in October, it is not fresh season fruit.

Nutrition You Can Actually Cite

Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. Against the ICMR-NIN 2020 RDA — 80 mg/day for adult men, 65 mg/day for adult women — a 100 g serving covers about 40–45% of the male RDA and about 50% of the female RDA. These are peer-reviewed figures from the Indian Council of Medical Research's National Institute of Nutrition, 2020 edition.

Mangiferin, a bioactive compound in Alphonso pulp, showed anti-inflammatory activity in a cell study by Govindappa et al., 2011. That is a cell study, not a clinical trial. We cite it honestly, without overstating what it proves.

Alphonso puree is suitable for babies from about 6 months as a first fruit. Keep it as a serving suggestion — not medical advice — and introduce it alongside other foods as your paediatrician recommends.

Season and Storage

When does the Alphonso mango season run?

February to June. Peak volume and peak quality land in March, April and May. By late June, yields thin and quality drops with the pre-monsoon humidity. We stop selling fresh Alphonso when the season ends — there is no year-round fresh stock.

How should you store Alphonso mango after delivery?

Unbox immediately and let the fruit breathe at room temperature. If the mangoes feel firm (70–80% ripe at dispatch), they will be fully ripe in about two to three days. Once ripe, refrigerate and eat within two days. Do not store unripe mangoes in the fridge — cold halts the ripening process and damages texture.

What is the multipurpose use of Alphonso mango?

Alphonso mango multipurpose fruit — eaten fresh, used in aamras, pulp, lassi and desserts

Fresh eating is the obvious one, but Alphonso's low-fibre, high-Brix pulp is what makes it the preferred base for aamras, mango lassi, kulfi and shrikhand. The pulp holds its colour and flavour through freezing better than most other varieties — which is why processed Alphonso pulp commands a premium in the food industry. We sell Sweetened Alphonso Mango Pulp for year-round use and a full mango collection during season.

Authority

AlphonsoMango.in is operated by Powle Home Foods, founded in 2017 by Prashant Powle — who selects every village and every farmer family in the sourcing network personally. The operating entity was registered July 2019; the first full commercial season ran in 2020. People Also Ask

Why is Alphonso mango costly?

Alphonso mango is costly because it grows only in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, ripens once a year between February and June, and must be hand-harvested, graded by weight, scanned for internal defects, and dispatched within 48–72 hours of leaving the tree. Short season, narrow geography, and perishable logistics all push the price up.

Fruit sourced from 55 villages across these two districts cannot be replicated anywhere else — the laterite soil, sea-facing humidity, and 12–25-year-old trees are what make GI No. 139 what it is.

Can you get Alphonso mangoes in the US?

Yes, Alphonso mangoes reach the US, but availability is limited and seasonal — roughly March to May. Import regulations require irradiation treatment, which can soften the pulp and dull the flavour compared to fruit eaten fresh in India. Genuine GI-tagged Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso from authorised users is rare on US shelves.

Alphonsomango.in currently ships within India only; if you are in India, orders reach most cities in 1–3 days by BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees.

What is the cost of 1 kg Alphonso mango?

GI-tagged Alphonso mango from Ratnagiri or Devgad is priced per box, not per kilogram. A half-dozen box starts at ₹1849 and a two-dozen box goes up to ₹5499 depending on variety and grade. Retail loose prices in Mumbai markets vary widely by season, grade, and whether the fruit carries genuine GI documentation.

Buying by the box from an authorised GI user like Powle Home Foods gives you a fixed grade — Small at 150–180 g, Medium at 180–225 g, Extra Large at 250–275 g, or Jumbo at 275–300 g per fruit.

Is Alphonso the best mango in the world?

Many food writers and chefs say yes, and the evidence is hard to argue with. Alphonso from Ratnagiri and Devgad hits 18–24° Brix at full ripeness, carries a GI tag that no other mango region in India can copy, and exports regularly to the US, UK, UAE, Singapore and Japan.

Whether 'best' is the right word depends on what you value — but 47,000+ customers who reorder at a rate of 46% season after season are a reasonable data point.

Prashant Powle was interviewed by The Economic Times in June 2026 as a GI-certified Alphonso grower and trader on the subject of weather, yield and the challenges facing the variety that season.
