Mango Gain Weight at Home - AlphonsoMango.in

Mango can help you gain weight at home when it joins a calorie-surplus diet: raw mango gives about 60 kcal per 100 g, mostly natural sugar. Blend ripe Alphonso with milk, curd and nuts three times a day, and see a doctor if underweight.

Can mango help you gain weight?

Weight goes up when you eat more energy than you burn, steadily, over weeks. No single fruit does that for you. Mango helps because it is easy to eat in volume, sweet enough to tempt a poor appetite, and blends well with milk, curd, nuts and ghee, which carry the real calories. We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai and we run AlphonsoMango.in, so we sell mangoes, not medical advice. What follows is ordinary diet sense that you can check against the NHS page linked at the end.

Mango itself is modest in energy. The Wikipedia nutrition table for raw mango, which reproduces USDA data, gives about 60 kcal, about 15 g of carbohydrate, 1.6 g of fibre and 36.4 mg of vitamin C (roughly 40% of the Daily Value) per 100 g, with very little fat or protein. A ripe Alphonso is small, usually 150 to 300 g, so one fruit is a light snack, not a meal. The gain comes from what you pair it with and how often you eat.

The NHS suggests adding roughly 300 to 500 healthy calories a day so weight rises gradually, eating smaller meals more often, and boosting meals with cheese, nuts, seeds and protein foods. Mango fits that plan as the sweet, appetising part of two or three of those extra servings.

Who this is for, and who should see a doctor first

A body mass index below 18.5 is classed as underweight by the World Health Organization. If you are well below that, have lost weight without trying, or lack appetite for weeks, speak to a doctor before you change your diet, because weight loss without a clear reason is worth checking. This page is general information about food, not medical advice.

  • Naturally slim but healthy: many people simply want more muscle. Pair the extra food with strength training so the weight added is muscle, not only fat.
  • Underweight with weak appetite: small frequent meals and drinks work better than large plates. A mango shake is easier to finish than a heavy lunch.
  • Diabetes or blood sugar concerns: mango is sweet. Speak to your doctor before adding it in quantity; our note on mango and weight covers the other side of the question.
  • Children: do not push extra calories on a child without a paediatrician's advice.

How to gain weight with mango: a daily pattern

Think in two to three mango servings a day, spread out, each paired with protein or fat. Here is a plan you can adapt to your own diet and budget.

A sample day of mango-based extra calories
Time What to have Why it works
Breakfast Mango chopped into oats, upma or poha, with curd Sweet fruit makes a plain breakfast easier to finish
Mid-morning Mango milkshake or smoothie with milk and a handful of cashews Liquid calories go down without feeling heavy
Lunch Normal meal, then a bowl of aamras with a spoon of ghee Ghee adds fat energy; aamras is easy to eat after a meal
Evening Mango lassi or kulfi, plus nuts A second protein-and-sugar snack
Night Warm milk with saffron and dry fruit Slow protein before sleep

Recipes are on our own pages: mango milkshake, mango smoothie recipe, mango lassi, mango kulfi and aamras. There is also a dedicated page on recipes for weight gain using mango.

For a weight-gain shake, a sensible base is one cup of whole milk, one ripe mango or half a cup of pulp, a spoonful of curd or milk powder if you use it, and a small handful of soaked cashews or almonds. Whole milk and nuts do the heavy lifting; the mango makes it taste good enough to repeat every day.

Habits that matter more than any fruit

  • Eat more often. Five or six smaller meals suit a small appetite better than three large ones.
  • Put protein first. Dal, eggs, paneer, curd, fish or chicken, depending on your diet, at every main meal.
  • Add energy-dense extras. Ghee on rice or roti, cream in a smoothie, nuts and seeds as snacks. We sell W180 cashews and pista if you want them with your mango.
  • Do not drink a lot of water just before meals. It fills the stomach; sip between meals instead.
  • Train and sleep. Strength training tells the body to build muscle with the extra food, and good sleep supports appetite and recovery.
  • Weigh weekly, not daily. A rise of a few hundred grams a week is a good pace.

Avoid the shortcut of sugary drinks and fried snacks to hit calories. They raise weight but not strength, and they crowd out the protein your body needs.

Which mango to use, and when

For a plain, sweet, non-fibrous pulp, Alphonso (Hapus) is the classic choice for shakes and aamras. We source Alphonso across 55 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Alphonso from this belt is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139, and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.

Fresh Alphonso is sold in season: harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May, and the 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Pick Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango or Devgad Alphonso Mango, both from Rs 1,849 per dozen; a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Harvest to ripening takes about 15 days, so keep the box at room temperature and use each fruit as it softens.

Outside the season, the Alphonso mango pulp tin (850 g and 3.1 kg, from Rs 590) is available all year and is practical for shakes. Check the product page for the current price. Our mango nutrition facts lists the full table, and the how to gain weight guide gives the wider diet picture.

People also ask

Does eating mango make you gain weight?

Mango can contribute to weight gain when it adds to a calorie surplus, but it is not fattening by itself. Raw mango gives about 60 kcal per 100 g, mostly natural sugar. Weight rises when you eat more energy than you burn over weeks, so pair mango with milk, curd, nuts and ghee.

How many mangoes should I eat a day to gain weight?

There is no fixed number. Two to three servings of mango a day, each paired with protein or healthy fat, is a reasonable pattern for most healthy adults. The NHS suggests adding about 300 to 500 healthy calories a day. Check with your doctor if you have diabetes or any health condition.

What is the best mango shake for weight gain?

A simple, effective shake is whole milk, ripe mango or Alphonso pulp, a spoon of curd, and a handful of soaked cashews or almonds. The milk and nuts supply most of the calories and protein, while the mango adds sweetness so you finish it. Drink it between meals, not instead of them.

Is it okay to eat mango at night to gain weight?

Yes, for most people it is fine to eat mango in the evening or after dinner, and a small portion with warm milk is a common habit. Timing matters less than your total daily calories. If you have diabetes, reflux or digestion problems, ask your doctor before making late-night mango a routine.
