Every mango we dispatch is hand-harvested from orchards across 55 villages in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts — villages like Pawas, Golap and Nachane in Ratnagiri taluka, and Devgad, Jamsande and Vijaydurg in Sindhudurg. Prashant Powle sources only from orchards where trees are 12–25 years old and Brix consistency is checked before the season starts. No fruit is sourced blind.

Buy NowBoth carry GI Tag No. 139. Both are tested independently by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd. (NABL-accredited, Thane) — all 28 residues within Codex maximum residue limits, certificate TC-8284 issued 5 April 2025. We will not describe them as pesticide-free; one residue (thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg against a limit of 0.2 mg/kg) was detected and is within limits. That is the honest figure.

The Devgad fruit's Brix typically sits at the upper end of that 18–24° window, which is why returning customers in Mumbai often specify it by name. Ratnagiri fruit has a slightly more pronounced fragrance at the stem. Neither is better — they are different expressions of the same GI-tagged variety, shaped by coastal microclimate differences between Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.
Delivery Across India
Fruit leaves the orchard within 48–72 hours of harvest. About 2 hours after picking, it reaches either our Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse. Air-conditioned vehicles carry it 10–12 hours to the Mumbai packhouse, where it undergoes 24–48 hours of natural hay-bed ripening — monitored, not gas-triggered. Then it is dispatched.
Transit windows by zone:
- Metro cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata): 20–24 hours from dispatch.
- Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities: 1–3 days.
Courier is BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees — assigned by pin code at the time of dispatch. We cover 15,000–17,000 serviceable pin codes across India.
Every box is a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard (CFB) unit, 130 gsm paper, with a 12-slot partition that takes the transit pressure instead of the fruit. Each mango sits in a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm, length 100–120 mm) on a hay bed, with six air holes top and bottom. The foam net prevents lenticel bruising — Alphonso skin blackens when rubbed, so the diamond mesh keeps fruit separated without contact.
Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness. It ripens fully within about three days of delivery.

Where the Mango Comes From
We source from 55 named villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts — sea-facing Konkan coast, where the combination of laterite soil, salt-laden coastal breeze and alternating wet-dry seasons produces the Alphonso's characteristic fibreless pulp and concentrated sugar. The ODOP Awards 2024 gave Ratnagiri Alphonso a Gold Medal at the national level — a district-product recognition, not an award to AlphonsoMango.in, but it reflects what the region has been doing for generations.
Prashant Powle selects orchards personally. Partner trees are typically 12–25 years old, and alternate-bearing management keeps fruit quality consistent across seasons. Harvesting uses a Nutan/Zela pole with a catching net and cutting mechanism. The tree is never shaken. Fruit never falls. For taller trees, an indigenously developed length-extending pole fitted with a camera locates the stem before cutting.
What is the GI Tag for Alphonso Mango?
GI Tag No. 139 covers Alphonso mangoes from Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Powle Home Foods holds GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019). The Devgad Alphonso GI is AU/6932. Both numbers appear on our packaging — if a seller cannot quote their AU number, the fruit's origin is unverifiable.
How the Mango Ripens
Natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening only, in temperature-controlled rooms. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind.
The 24–48 hours the fruit spends at the Mumbai packhouse is monitored natural ripening on hay — not gas-triggered. Post-harvest cooling precedes transport, and a hot-water treatment after harvest reduces surface issues and extends shelf life. Every batch is weighed, graded and scanned by AI/ML-assisted machines that check for internal defects (spongy tissue) and external deformities before packing.
We do not claim to be carbide-free by lab certification — the Envirocare panel does not test calcium carbide. What we say is that our process uses no carbide, and our residue panel (28 pesticides tested weekly through the season) is independently verified. Those are two separate, honest statements.
Nutrition
What vitamins does Alphonso mango contain?
Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 recommended daily allowance for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Mangiferin, a polyphenol found in mango, has been studied for anti-inflammatory activity in cell studies (Govindappa et al., 2011). The fruit also provides dietary fibre, beta-carotene and B vitamins.
Alphonso puree is suitable for babies from about 6 months as a first fruit — keep this as a serving suggestion and consult your paediatrician for your child's specific needs.
Summer is the one window each year when Brix hits 18–24° naturally. A Malvan-packed Devgad fruit at 22° Brix in May tastes nothing like the off-season pulp products that carry the word "Alphonso" year-round.
Storage After Delivery
How do I know if my mangoes are ripe?
Your fruit arrives at 70–80% ripeness. Leave it at room temperature for two to three days. When the skin yields slightly to gentle thumb pressure near the base and the fragrance is strong at the stem, it is ready. Do not refrigerate unripe Alphonso — cold interrupts natural ripening and flattens the aroma permanently.
Once ripe, you can refrigerate for one to two days. Eat within that window for peak flavour. Cut fruit should be consumed the same day.
What is the mango season in India?
Alphonso season runs February to June, with peak availability March through May. Outside this window — July to January — we do not sell fresh Alphonso. Anyone offering fresh Alphonso in August is not selling Konkan Hapus from the current harvest. Kesar mango (GI Tag No. 185, sourced from Junagadh and Gir) has a partially overlapping but distinct season window.
