Mango home delivery: what we send and how it works

Buy Ratnagiri Alphonso mango for home delivery from AlphonsoMango.in

Home delivery of fresh mangoes works well only when the seller controls three things: where the fruit grew, how it was ripened, and how it is handed to the courier. We control all three for our Alphonso. We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. We started selling offline in 2019 and online in 2020, and we have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales.

For a home order you choose a product, a size and the number of dozens, and we send it by Blue Dart. Our fresh range is Alphonso from Ratnagiri and Devgad, Kesar and Pairi. Alphonso pulp tins are also available for home delivery all year. This page explains the steps from tree to doorstep so you know what to expect.

From the tree to your doorstep

  1. Harvest. Our Alphonso is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, at Brahma Muhurta, the pre-dawn hour. Fruit is sourced across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast.
  2. Ripening. The mature fruit ripens on hay beds. Alphonso takes about 15 days from harvest to ripening. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.
  3. Packing by the dozen. Boxes are made up by the dozen and by size grade, so a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade.
  4. Handover to Blue Dart. We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery.
  5. At your door. You open the box, check the fruit and let it finish ripening at home.

Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide gas is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller. Our guide to identifying carbide-ripened mangoes online lists what to ask any seller.

Home delivery by PIN code

We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. That is the only delivery promise we make. We do not name a delivery day for a city, because the PIN code decides it. Two flats in the same city can see different results at checkout.

  • Enter the PIN code of the address where someone will be home to receive the box.
  • Give a working phone number, because a courier may call before delivery.
  • Avoid ordering to an address that stays locked for days.

Our delivery period guide and shipping charges guide explain how timing and shipping are shown at checkout. For city-specific pages, see our guide to Alphonso mango delivery.

Ratnagiri is a district and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district. Both grow Alphonso, and we do not rank one above the other. Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt is GI-tagged in India (GI No. 139), and we hold the GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). That credential covers Alphonso only; Kesar and Pairi are separate varieties. We do not quote a price per kilogram; prices are by the dozen, and the product page shows the current figure.

When the box arrives

Natural ripening means timing varies from box to box. Some fruit arrives firm and needs a few days at home, and some softens sooner. This is normal, and it is the reason to plan for the box to be with you a few days before you want to serve the fruit. Plan a dozen for the week and not for the same evening.

Open the box as soon as it arrives. Lift the fruit out and look at every piece. If anything is damaged, report it to us within 24 hours of delivery. Do not put firm fruit in the fridge. Keep it at room temperature, away from direct sun, in a single layer, until the aroma builds and the skin gives slightly near the stalk.

  • Ripe fruit: eat within a few days, or refrigerate the whole fruit.
  • Cut fruit: cover it and keep it in the fridge.
  • Too much fruit: the pulp can be used for aamras and desserts.

Our guide to how to ripen an Alphonso mango covers the signs of ripeness. A bucket-of-water test is only a rough clue, not proof, so do not use it to judge a box.

Home delivery for gifts and business orders

You can send a box to someone else's address by entering their details at checkout. For larger plans, such as a gift to many addresses, write to us with the quantity, the cities and the dates, and we will say what is possible. We also supply restaurants and hotels, in general terms; write to us for a quote. Our corporate gifting guide lists questions to ask any supplier, and the gift form is the place to start.
