What is Pairi mango?
Pairi, also written Payari or Pairi aam, and called Payari amba in Marathi, is a mango variety from Maharashtra. It is known as a Konkan variety, with golden-yellow skin, juicy flesh with little fibre, and a flavour where sweetness comes with a tang. The spelling changes with the language and the town, but the fruit is the same.

We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. We sell Pairi by the dozen, next to Alphonso and Kesar. This page is for readers searching "pairi mango", "payari mango" and "pairi mango price". It explains what the fruit is, how it differs from Alphonso, what we list it at, and how to order it.
We have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. Our fruit is sourced across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Check the Pairi product page for the exact origin and sizes listed for each season.
Pairi mango vs Alphonso mango
Readers often ask whether Pairi is "like Alphonso". Both are Maharashtra mangoes, and both are popular for aamras, but they are different varieties. The table sets out what we can say plainly.
| Point | Pairi (Payari) | Alphonso (Hapus) |
|---|---|---|
| Other names | Payari, Pairi aam, Payari amba | Hapus, Hafoos, Alphonso aam |
| Described as | Sweet with a tang, golden-yellow skin, juicy, little fibre | Rich, creamy, non-fibrous pulp; fruit generally 150 to 300 g |
| GI position | Not applicable | Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso has GI No. 139 |
| How we sell it | By the dozen, Rs 2,799 | By the dozen, from Rs 1,849 |
| Page | Pairi mango | Ratnagiri Alphonso |
We do not say one is better. If you want the classic Hapus aroma and a fruit with a registered Geographical Indication, choose Alphonso. If you want a sweet-tangy mango that is also good for aamras and juices, Pairi is worth trying. Our guide to buying Alphonso, Kesar and Payari compares all three.
Pairi mango price
We list Pairi at Rs 2,799 for one dozen. Check the product page for today's price, because prices can change through the season. We do not quote a price per kilo. Pairi is sold by the dozen, and the weight of the dozen depends on the grade of the fruit.
Several things move the price of any mango:
- Size and grade. Larger fruit costs more.
- Season timing. The size of the crop in a given year changes supply.
- Handling. Careful harvest, grading and boxing add cost.
- Quantity. Ask any seller about larger orders; write to us if you need many dozens.
For comparison, Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso start from Rs 1,849 per dozen, and Kesar is Rs 999 for a half-dozen and Rs 1,699 for a dozen. Our Alphonso mango price guide covers the Alphonso side.

Questions to ask before you buy Pairi from any seller
Pairi is sold under several spellings, and online listings do not always make clear what you are getting. A short list of questions protects you whoever you buy from.
- Is it Pairi (Payari) or another mango sold under a similar name? The listing should name the variety.
- Where was it grown? A seller should name the region.
- How is it sold? A dozen should come with a clear weight range, not just a count.
- How was it ripened? A plain answer is a good sign.
- Is there a food licence number? Look for an FSSAI licence number on the site.
We are an FSSAI-licensed seller, and our details are on the Brand Facts page.
Ripening, ripeness signs and eating
We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. For Pairi, as for any mango, ask the seller how it was ripened. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011, and ethylene up to 100 ppm is the permitted alternative.
Keep Pairi at room temperature, away from direct sun, and let it soften on its own. These are rough clues, not proof, that a mango is ready:
- A sweet fragrance near the stalk.
- A slight give when you press gently near the shoulder.
- Skin that has turned from green to golden-yellow, though colour alone can mislead.
Do not refrigerate unripe fruit. Cold slows ripening and can dull the flavour. Ripe Pairi can be eaten as it is, blended into a drink, or made into aamras. See our aamras recipe and our guide on ripening mangoes at home, whose steps work for most mangoes.
What is in a mango
We do not have a nutrition table specific to Pairi, so we give general mango values. 100 g of raw mango provides about 36 mg of vitamin C, roughly 40% of the Daily Value. Mango also carries dietary fibre and natural sugars. If you manage diabetes or another condition, ask your doctor or dietitian how much mango suits you.
Wikipedia lists India as producing roughly 43% of the world's mangoes, according to FAO figures that also include mangosteens and guavas, at about 26 million tonnes in 2023. Pairi is one of many varieties in that crop.
