Delivery Across India

Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness — firm enough to survive the courier, ripe enough to be ready within about three days of delivery. The full journey from tree to your door runs like this:

  • Harvest by hand using a Nutan/Zela pole with a catching net — no shaking, no falling fruit
  • About 2 hours from orchard to the Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse
  • Post-harvest cooling, then 10–12 hours by air-conditioned vehicle to Mumbai
  • 24–48 hours of natural hay-bed ripening at the Mumbai packhouse
  • Dispatch via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code
  • Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.

Each mango travels in a foam-net sleeve inside a 5-ply corrugated box with a 12-slot partition that takes the pressure instead of the fruit. Six air holes on the top and base keep airflow going so the fruit continues ripening evenly in transit. If anything arrives damaged, photograph or video it and send the evidence on WhatsApp within 24 hours of delivery — no physical return required. We replace the fruit or credit your account.

Where These Mangoes Come From

Prashant Powle started selecting orchards in 2017, long before Powle Home Foods was registered in July 2019. The criterion was consistent Brix, trees 18–24 years old, and sea-facing location — salt wind off the Arabian Sea is part of why Konkan Alphonso smells the way it does.

We now source from 48 coastal villages across Ratnagiri and Devgad. That includes Pawas, Golap, Mirya and Kalbadevi in Ratnagiri taluka; Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg and Kunkeshwar in Devgad taluka; and Achara, Tondavali and Shiroda across Malvan and Vengurla talukas. We run two packing points: one at Malvan and one at Devgad.

Every box you order comes from one of those 100-plus partner farmer families. Their cultivation follows fixed SOPs — which natural sprays, which fertilisers, from flowering through to harvest. Residue testing runs weekly through the season at Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd. in Thane (NABL-accredited, certificate TC-8284). The April 2025 panel, report 01/ETHAP2500044, cleared all 28 tested residues within Codex maximum residue limits. 27 of 28 were below the limit of quantification. We say independently tested, all residues within Codex limits — not "pesticide-free," because one residue (thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg against a 0.2 mg/kg limit) was detected within limits.

How the Fruit Is Ripened

No carbide. No ethylene chambers. The 24–48 hours the fruit spends at our Mumbai packhouse is natural hay-bed — what farmers in Konkan call Aadi ripening — in temperature-controlled rooms. The hay is not decorative. It insulates each fruit, holds it steady, and lets it sweat uniformly. That is what produces the saffron-yellow skin and the concentrated sugar you taste.

We assumed that buyers in Delhi or Bengaluru would want fully ripe fruit on arrival. The grading and transit data showed otherwise — fruit dispatched at 80% ripeness holds better in transit and finishes ripening in your kitchen within three days, with fewer pressure bruises. So that is what we do.

How to Know It Is the Real Thing

What makes Alphonso Alphonso?

GI No. 139 covers Alphonso grown in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts only. A mango grown in Karnataka or Andhra cannot legally carry the Alphonso GI. Our GI Registry Certificate No. 4163 was issued 16 October 2019. The authorised user number for Ratnagiri fruit is AU/5974/GI/139/260; for Devgad fruit, AU/6932.

When you buy from a local market without GI documentation, you have no way to verify origin. That is not a criticism of every vendor — it is just a fact about the supply chain. Ratnagiri Alphonso won the Gold Medal at the national ODOP Awards 2024, which speaks to how much the government and trade now treat origin verification seriously.

AI-assisted grading before packing

Every fruit is weighed and graded — Small (150–180 g), Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g) or Jumbo (275–300 g). An AI/ML-assisted scanning step checks each mango for internal issues like spongy tissue and for external deformities before it goes into a box. Spongy tissue is the hidden problem that ruins a perfectly good-looking Alphonso. Catching it before dispatch is the point.

Nutrition You Actually Get

Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 RDA for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Those are the current ICMR figures — the older 40 mg/day RDA from 2010 is superseded.

Mangiferin, a xanthonoid found in mango pulp and peel, showed anti-inflammatory activity in cell studies (Govindappa et al., 2011). That is a cell study, not a clinical trial — we are not making health claims. What we can say is that a ripe Alphonso from Devgad at 22–24° Brix is not a guilty pleasure. It is also not a supplement.

Is Alphonso puree suitable for babies?

Our product FAQ notes Alphonso puree as a serving suggestion for babies from about 6 months. That is a serving suggestion, not medical advice — check with your paediatrician.

How to Order

  1. Select your grade. Choose Ratnagiri Alphonso (₹1,849 to ₹5,399) or Devgad Alphonso (₹1,849 to ₹5,499) on the product page. Pick the size grade that fits your household — a half dozen suits a couple trying it the first time; two dozen suits a family through the peak of the season.
  2. Review the options. Box options are half dozen, one dozen and two dozen. Corporate or HoReCa orders from 5 dozen upward can be placed via the same pages or by contacting us directly.
  3. Dispatch. We ship via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.

People Also Ask

Where is the best place to buy mangoes?

The best place to buy GI-tagged Alphonso mangoes is directly from a GI-authorised source that ships from the orchard district. AlphonsoMango.in (Powle Home Foods, AU/5974/GI/139/260) sources from 48 villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg and delivers across India. Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.

If you are buying in a local market between March and June, ask the seller for their GI certificate — without it, there is no proof the fruit is Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso.

Does mango have a physical store?

AlphonsoMango.in operates as a direct-to-consumer brand with no retail shop. Orders ship from packing centres at Malvan and Devgad in Maharashtra directly to your door. Every box is packed to order and dispatched within 48–72 hours of harvest, which a physical store model cannot replicate for a fruit this perishable.

Is fresh mango available at the moment?

Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso are available February through June, with peak supply from March to May. Outside that window, fresh Alphonso is not sold on AlphonsoMango.in — the season closes by end of June and the site does not stock cold-stored or off-season fruit.

The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.
