Buy from Our Mango Store

We source directly from 100+ partner farmer families across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Every box is weighed, graded, foam-sleeved, hay-bedded and dispatched within 48–72 hours of harvest. No middlemen, no cold-store blending, no carbide.

The Alphonso season runs February to June, with peak fruit in March and April. Outside that window, fresh hapus is not available — this is the one honest limit of buying from a farm-direct mango store rather than a supermarket that sells year-round imports. Our cashews and other dry fruits ship all year.

Ratnagiri vs Devgad: Which Alphonso?

Both varieties carry GI Tag No. 139. Both come from the Konkan coast. The difference is orchard location, microclimate and, often, the upper end of the Brix scale.

Repeat-order preference North India leans Ratnagiri Mumbai leans Devgad

We noticed this north-south preference pattern only after tracking reorder data from 47,000+ customers. We assumed location near Devgad orchards would drive Devgad preference everywhere — the data said otherwise.

Delivery Across India

Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness — firm enough to survive transit, ripe within about three days of delivery at room temperature. The supply chain from harvest to your door:

  • 0–2 hours: Hand-harvested with a Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net. The tree is never shaken. Fruit never falls.
  • 2–12 hours: Post-harvest cooling at the Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse, then 10–12 hours by air-conditioned vehicle to our Mumbai facility.
  • 12–60 hours: 24–48 hours of natural hay-bed ripening at Mumbai, monitored — not gas-triggered.
  • 60–72 hours: Graded, foam-sleeved, packed in 5-ply corrugated CFB boxes with a 12-slot partition, dispatched.
  • Delivery: Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.

Courier is BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. If transit damage or quality failure occurs, report within 24 hours of delivery with photos or video on WhatsApp — we dispatch a fresh replacement or credit your account. No physical return required.

Where Our Mangoes Come From

Premium Devgad Alphonso mangoes sourced from sea-facing orchards across Konkan

Powle Home Foods sources from 48 villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. On the Devgad side: Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Hindale, Naringre, Padel, Girye, Waghotan, Kunkeshwar and more. On the Ratnagiri side: Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mavalange, Mirya, Kalbadevi, Kasheli and others across Ratnagiri, Rajapur, Lanja and Mandangad talukas.

Our 100+ partner farmer families work sea-facing orchards, typically 12–25 years old. Prashant Powle selects each orchard on three criteria: Brix consistency across the season, tree longevity, and how the farmer manages alternate-bearing years. Cultivation follows SOPs covering which natural sprays and fertilisers are used from flowering to harvest.

Fruit is independently tested by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane (NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284). Report 01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025: all 28 residues within Codex maximum residue limits; 27 of 28 below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). One residue — thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg — was detected within the Codex limit of 0.2 mg/kg. We say "independently tested, all residues within Codex limits." We do not say pesticide-free.

How We Ripen the Fruit

Natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening only, in temperature-controlled rooms. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours at the Mumbai packhouse is monitored ripening on hay — not gas-triggered.

This matters because carbide-ripened fruit yellows fast on the outside while staying unripe at the stone. Hay-bed fruit develops sweetness from the inside out. You can taste the difference on day two after delivery — the aroma fills the room before you cut the fruit open.

What is Brix and why does it matter for Alphonso?

Brix measures the dissolved sugar content in fruit juice. At full ripeness, our Alphonso reads 18–24° Brix across the season. Devgad fruit typically sits at the upper end of that range. A market Alphonso ripened with carbide rarely hits 18° because the fruit never completes its natural sugar conversion.

Grading and Packing

Every fruit is weighed. Weight grades: Small (150–180 g), Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g), Jumbo (275–300 g). After weighing, AI/ML-assisted machine scanning checks each mango for internal conditions including spongy tissue and external deformities. Fruit that fails either check does not ship.

Each mango goes into a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm, length 100–120 mm by fruit size), then into a hay bed inside a top-and-bottom 5-ply corrugated fibreboard box, 130 gsm paper, alternate flute orientation, with reinforced corners and a 12-slot partition. The partition carries transit pressure so the fruit does not. Six air holes — top and bottom — keep airflow going so the hay ripening continues in transit.

Season and Availability

Fresh Alphonso is available February to June. The peak — when Brix is highest and supply most consistent — is March to May. We do not sell fresh hapus July to January. Anyone offering "Alphonso" outside this window is selling something else.

18% of our orders are gifts. Corporate and HoReCa orders from five dozen (about 15–20 kg) upward are handled separately — multi-destination dispatch across India is possible, as shown by a May 2026 corporate dispatch for Messe Muenchen India Pvt. Ltd. If you are buying for an event, contact us before placing the order online so we can plan dispatch timing around your date.

Repeat customers average 2.8 boxes per season. 46% reorder. The Judge.me verified-buyer rating across alphonsomango.in is 4.35 stars.
