Both cities sit about 120–250 km from Mumbai, well within easy reach of BlueDart dispatch. We ship GI-certified Alphonso (Hapus) from Ratnagiri and Devgad, ripened on natural hay beds, with no calcium carbide and no ethylene chambers. Every box is independently tested — all 28 residues within Codex maximum residue limits (Envirocare Labs, NABL certificate TC-8284, April 2025).
Ratnagiri vs Devgad: Which Alphonso?
Both carry GI No. 139. The difference is in fruit character — Ratnagiri fruit tends to be firmer with a deeper golden skin; Devgad fruit is typically rounder, with pulp Brix at the upper end of 18–24° when fully ripe. Customers ordering from north Maharashtra (Nashik, Ahmednagar) lean toward Ratnagiri, based on repeat-order data from our 47,000+ customers — though Devgad has a firm following for sweetness.

Every fruit — Ratnagiri or Devgad — is weighed, graded, and passed through AI/ML-assisted machine scanning that checks for internal defects (including spongy tissue) and external blemishes before packing. Fruit that fails the scan does not ship.
Delivery to Nashik and Ahmednagar
From harvest to dispatch is 48–72 hours. The fruit travels roughly 2 hours by road from the orchard to our Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse, cools down, then moves in air-conditioned vehicles to our Mumbai packhouse — a 10–12 hour run. There it rests on hay for 24–48 hours of natural ripening, then we dispatch.
Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.
Fruit leaves us at 70–80% ripeness — firm enough to handle transit without bruising, and fully ripe within about three days of delivery. Each mango travels in a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm) inside a 12-slot partition that takes transit pressure instead of the fruit, in a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard box with six air holes for ventilation. We do not ship fresh Alphonso July to January — the season ends and we will not send you fruit that is not in season. The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.
If a mango arrives damaged, photograph it within 24 hours of delivery and send us the image. We replace it, 100%.

Where Our Alphonso Comes From
We source from 48 villages across Ratnagiri and Devgad. In Devgad taluka: Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Hindale, Girye, Rameshwar, Kunkeshwar and others. In Ratnagiri taluka: Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mirya, Majgaon, Kasheli. In Rajapur and Lanja: Kelshi, Anjarle, Velneshwar, Velas and more.
Our 100+ partner farmer families run orchards that are typically 12–25 years old, sea-facing, selected by founder Prashant Powle on three criteria: Brix consistency across the tree, orchard age (older trees produce more concentrated fruit), and disciplined alternate-bearing management. Farmers follow strict SOPs from flowering to harvest — covering which natural sprays and fertilisers are used and when.
Harvest uses a Nutan/Zela pole with a catching net and cutting mechanism. The tree is never shaken. Fruit never falls. For tall trees, we use an indigenously developed length-extending pole fitted with a camera. One dropped mango bruises — and a bruised Alphonso shows it within hours, with lenticels blackening at the impact point.
We pack at our Malvan packing centre and Devgad packing point before the fruit moves to Mumbai.
What GI Authorised User status actually means
Anyone can put "Ratnagiri Alphonso" on a box. GI Authorised User status (AU/5974/GI/139/260, Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019) means the GI Registry has verified that Powle Home Foods sources genuine fruit from within the GI-designated area and meets the standards for that designation. It is a legal credential, not a marketing badge.
Ripening: What No Carbide Actually Means
Calcium carbide ripening is fast and cheap. It also leaves acetylene residues, produces uneven ripening (yellow skin, underripe core), and in some studies is linked to health concerns. We use none of it.
At our Mumbai packhouse, fruit rests on hay beds in temperature-controlled rooms for 24–48 hours. This is the traditional Aadi method — the hay insulates, holds just enough moisture, and lets the fruit ripen from inside out on its own ethylene. There are no gas chambers, no chemical ripening agents of any kind.
The Envirocare Labs panel (NABL, TC-8284, certificate 01/ETHAP2500044, 5 April 2025) tested 28 pesticide residues. Twenty-seven were below the limit of quantification at 0.01 mg/kg. One — thiamethoxam — was detected at 0.013 mg/kg against a Codex maximum of 0.2 mg/kg. We report that honestly. We do not call the fruit pesticide-free; we say all residues are within Codex limits, which they are. Carbide is not in this panel's scope — but our ripening process leaves no room for it.
Season and Availability
Alphonso season runs February to June (the 2027 season starts on 1 February 2027), with the peak between March and May. The earliest fruit (February) tends to be smaller and lower Brix. By April, Devgad fruit regularly hits the upper end of 18–24° Brix. By late May, the late-season Ratnagiri fruit from Velas and Kelshi can still be excellent — those coastal orchards ripen later.
After June, fresh Alphonso is not available. We will not ship out-of-season fruit. If you visit the site in August, the fresh mango pages will show as out of stock — that is accurate, not a technical error.
Ratnagiri Alphonso won the Gold Medal at the national One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2024 — a recognition of the district and the fruit, not a prize issued to our business, but it reflects the calibre of what grows here.
Corporate and Gift Orders
18% of our orders are gifts. A mango box travels well: the 5-ply CFB construction handles courier drops that would destroy a standard fruit carton, and the foam-net sleeves prevent the surface friction that turns Alphonso lenticels dark in transit.
Corporate and HoReCa orders start from 5 dozen (roughly 15–20 kg). We have dispatched to hotel groups, private banks, wealth managers, IT firms and event organisers. In May 2026, we handled a multi-destination corporate dispatch across India — boxes to delegates in different cities, all from a single order placed by one client. If you need something similar, email us with your pin code list and we will confirm serviceability before you commit.
For gifting to Nashik or Ahmednagar addresses specifically: order online, enter the recipient's address at checkout, and add a note in the order. We pack neatly — the box itself presents well.

People Also Ask
How much does 1 kg of Alphonso mango cost?
Alphonso mango prices vary by grade, origin and season. GI-certified Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso are sold by the dozen — half dozen, one dozen or two dozen — not by the kilogram, because pricing by piece protects grade integrity. Kesar mango from Junagadh is priced ₹999 to ₹1,699 per box when in season.
Which place is famous for Alphonso mangoes?
Ratnagiri and Devgad in coastal Maharashtra are the two places most famous for Alphonso mangoes. Both hold GI Tag No. 139. The fruit grows across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts — in villages like Devgad, Pawas, Golap, Girye and Kunkeshwar — where sea-facing orchards and laterite soil produce the Brix levels (18–24°) Alphonso is known for.
How much does a kilogram of Hapus mango cost in Nashik?
GI-certified Hapus (Alphonso) is not typically sold by the kilogram — it is graded and sold by the piece or box. At alphonsomango.in, boxes ship to Nashik from our Mumbai packhouse.
