Why Alphonso prices differ from one box to the next

Two boxes labelled "one dozen" can cost very different amounts. That is normal for Alphonso, and it is the main reason a single "price in Delhi" never exists. These are the things that move the number.
- Grade and fruit size. A dozen of our Alphonso weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Alphonso fruit generally weighs 150 to 300 g, so bigger grades cost more per dozen.
- Origin. Our fruit is sourced across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Alphonso from this belt is GI-tagged in India (GI No. 139).
- Hand harvesting. Fruit is picked by hand with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, and harvest is done in the pre-dawn hours at Brahma Muhurta. This is slow work compared with shaking a tree.
- Short season. Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. Supply is limited to that window.
- Natural ripening. Mature fruit ripens on hay beds over several days. That takes space and time, and it is slower than forcing the fruit.
- Packing and delivery. Each box is packed for the courier and sent by Blue Dart.
If you wonder why Hapus is expensive compared with other mangoes, it is mainly this combination of small supply, hand work and a defined growing area.
What about the 1 kg Hapus aam price?
"1 kg hapus aam price" is one of the most common searches from Delhi, so we should address it directly. We do not sell by the kilo and we do not quote a per-kg rate. A kilo of Alphonso is only a few fruits, and the number changes with the grade, so a per-kg figure from one seller is hard to compare with another's box.
A simpler way to compare any two offers is to ask for the same four details in writing or on the product page.
| Ask for | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Fruit count per dozen or box | A dozen should be twelve fruits, so ask what a "box" means in count. |
| Total box weight and grade | Our dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. |
| Region and variety | Alphonso, Kesar and Pairi are different mangoes with different prices. |
| How the fruit was ripened | Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India. |
Write to us with your family size or gifting plan and we will point you to the grade that suits it. Our guide to Alphonso mango 1 kg price covers the question in more detail.
Delhi markets compared with ordering online
Many Delhi families buy mangoes from local fruit sellers, and Azadpur Mandi in north-west Delhi, often described as one of the largest wholesale fruit and vegetable markets in Asia, supplies much of the city's fruit. We do not quote market rates because they change daily with the variety, the grade and the supply, and a number that was true last week may be wrong now.
What matters more is what you can check. At any stall or on any website, ask which variety it is, which region it came from, how many fruits are in the dozen and how the fruit was ripened. A seller who answers these plainly is easier to trust. For fruit bought in a hurry, a friend's recommendation is worth less than a clear answer on these four points.
Online buying suits families who want a named origin and a seller they can contact later. A market suits those who want to see and smell the crate before paying. Both are reasonable, and neither proves quality on its own.
Delivery to Delhi, ripening and what we stand behind
We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout before you pay, because we never promise next-day delivery for a named city. If a box arrives damaged, report it within 24 hours of delivery.
The fruit is ripened naturally before it reaches you. Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide (acetylene) gas is prohibited under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Our FSSAI licence number is 10020022011783.
We hold the GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). You can read the details on our Brand Facts page. We started selling offline in 2019 and online in 2020, and we have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales.
Once a box arrives, keep it at room temperature with the lid closed and let the fruit finish ripening. Delhi summers are hot, so choose a cool, shaded room rather than a sunny window. If you want the practical steps, our guide on how to ripen Alphonso mango explains how to tell when a fruit is ready.
When you can order and what to buy out of season

The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season, so ask any seller where out-of-season fruit comes from.
If you want the flavour for aamras, milkshakes or desserts outside the season, Alphonso mango pulp tins are available all year, from Rs 590. For gifting from Mumbai to Delhi, see our pages on mango gifting and the corporate gifting guide.
