Buy Fresh Fruit Mango: Taste the Tropical Flavor - AlphonsoMango.in

To buy fresh fruit mango with confidence, pick the variety first, then origin and size. India grows roughly 43% of the world's mangoes; we sell Konkan Alphonso from Rs 1,849 per dozen, by Blue Dart, in season opening 1 February 2027.

The mango as a tropical stone fruit

A mango is a tropical stone fruit: a fleshy fruit with one large seed inside. The English word mango comes from the Portuguese manga, which came from Malayalam; the root is Tamil man plus kay. The mango is the national fruit of India, Pakistan and the Philippines. India produces roughly 43% of the world's mangoes (FAO figures that also include mangosteens and guavas), about 26 million tonnes in 2023.

The fruit has been prized in India for centuries. The 13th-century poet Amir Khusrau called the mango the fairest fruit of Hindustan, and Emperor Akbar is recorded as planting a mango orchard of 100,000 trees near Darbhanga, Bihar. We mention this not as a sales point but because it explains why buyers care so much about which mango they are getting. Hundreds of cultivars exist, and they differ in size, sweetness, fibre, skin colour and flesh colour.

We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. We have sold mangoes since 2019, online since 2020, and have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales.

Which mango to buy fresh

You will meet many varieties in Indian markets, from Dasheri and Langra in the north to Totapuri and Banganapalli in the south. Our guide to Indian mango varieties lists the common ones. We sell a small number, and sell them properly.

  • Alphonso (Hapus). Sourced across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Fruits generally weigh 150 to 300 g, and the pulp is described as rich, creamy and non-fibrous. It is on the Ratnagiri Alphonso page and the Devgad Alphonso page, from Rs 1,849 per dozen.
  • Kesar. A Gujarat mango with orange pulp, on the Kesar mango page: half-dozen Rs 999, dozen Rs 1,699.
  • Pairi. On the Pairi mango page, from Rs 2,799 per dozen.

Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139, and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). A dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Prices change with grade and size, so check the product page for today's price.

How to buy fresh fruit mango online

Buying mangoes by courier works well when you ask four things: what variety, what origin, how it was ripened and how it travels. The ripening answer matters most. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011; ethylene up to 100 ppm is the permitted alternative. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller.

We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. We do not promise a delivery day for any named city. Shipping is shown at checkout. Open the box on arrival and report any damage within 24 hours of delivery to support@alphonsomango.in or 8369048029. Our delivery period for mangoes covers timings.

Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season; the Alphonso mango pulp tin (850 g and 3.1 kg, from Rs 590) is available all year.

How to judge a fresh mango by hand

Whatever you buy, a few rough clues help. They are clues, not proof of variety or of how the fruit was ripened.

  • Smell. A ripe mango smells sweet and fruity near the stalk. No smell usually means it needs more days.
  • Feel. A ripe fruit gives slightly under gentle thumb pressure. A very soft, wrinkled fruit is past its best.
  • Colour. Colour varies by variety and is a weak guide. Alphonso can show green, gold and a blush on the same fruit.
  • Weight. A heavy fruit for its size usually has more flesh. Compare fruits of the same grade.

When buying online you cannot touch the fruit, so the listing has to do the work: grade, count and origin. That is why we give fruit weight per grade on each product page. If a listing gives neither weight nor count, ask before you pay.

What a fresh mango gives you

Per 100 g, raw mango provides about 36 mg of vitamin C, roughly 40% of the Daily Value, about 43 micrograms of folate, around 11% of the Daily Value, and about 168 mg of potassium, 6% of the Daily Value. These are figures for mango in general, not for one variety. Mango also carries natural sugars, so portion size matters if you are watching your intake. If you have a medical condition, ask your doctor or dietitian. We sell fruit, not health advice.

The saffron-orange colour comes from carotenoids, the same family of pigments found in other orange fruit. Our pages on mango nutrition facts and how mango is good for health go through the details with sources.

Ripening, eating and using the fruit

Harvest to ripening of Alphonso takes about 15 days, so a box can arrive with some fruit firm. Lay the mangoes in a single layer at room temperature, away from direct sun. A sweet smell at the stalk and a slight give at the shoulder mean ripe. Do not refrigerate firm fruit. The bucket-of-water test is a rough clue, not proof.

Ripe mango needs very little. Eat it cut, with a spoon, or blend it into a milkshake or lassi. In Maharashtra the classic dish is aamras, served with puri or chapati; our aamras recipe has quantities. Mango also goes into salads, kulfi, smoothies and chutney. If a box ripens all at once, freeze the pulp in small portions. Our guide to ripening Alphonso at home explains the timing.
