Delivery Across India

Orders placed before 12:00 noon IST on weekdays go out the same day via BlueDart air freight. Transit is 1 day to Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Delhi; 2 days to Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata; 3 days to Tier-2 cities in the Northeast and J&K.

Each box is packed in a ventilated corrugated tray lined with wood shavings — the same material used in the hay-bed ripening room — to absorb humidity in transit. We do not use thermocol boxes, which trap ethylene and accelerate bruising.

We do not ship July–January. The tree simply does not produce fruit worth sending.

Where the Mangoes Come From

Prashant Powle sources from 48 villages across Ratnagiri and Devgad talukas — places like Velas, Hedvi, Aravali and Girye. These coastal laterite-soil pockets sit between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea, giving the fruit a microclimate no inland orchard replicates.

The volcanic red soil here is low in nitrogen and high in iron. That profile stresses the tree just enough to concentrate sugars. Orchards at sea level catch the sea breeze, which slows ripening naturally and builds aromatic esters — the compounds responsible for that signature floral scent in a ripe Hapus.

Why the GI Tag Matters for Your 4kg Box

GI No. 139 (Registry certificate 4163, issued 16 October 2019) restricts the name "Alphonso" to fruit grown in specific Konkan districts. Without it, you are buying a mango labelled Alphonso that could have been grown anywhere in Maharashtra or Gujarat. Our GI Authorised User number is AU/5974/GI/139/260. That code is traceable at the GI Registry in Chennai.

How We Ripen Them

Every batch goes through a hay-bed ripening room at the village level. Harvested green-firm, the mangoes sit on dry rice straw for 3–5 days at 26–30°C. The straw regulates humidity and triggers natural ethylene production from the fruit itself. No calcium carbide. No ethephon spray.

We assumed carbide-ripened fruit would be undetectable in a blind test. A Brix meter proved otherwise — carbide fruit peaked at 12–14 Brix and dropped quickly; naturally ripened Hapus from Hedvi village held 18 to 24 Brix for 48 hours after reaching full colour. That gap is why we will not compromise on the method.

What does "naturally ripened" look like on arrival?

The skin is fully yellow with no green patches near the stem. Press gently near the shoulder — it should yield like a ripe avocado. A faint saffron-floral smell rises before you even cut it. If any of those three are absent, contact us within 24 hours and we replace the box.

How Many Mangoes in 4kg?

Count depends entirely on grade. Small Alphonso (150–180g each) gives you 22–26 fruit. Medium (180–220g) gives 18–22. Large export-grade (220–280g) gives 14–18. At the premium end — the 280g+ kings from Devgad's coastal belt — you might get 12 in a tight 4kg pack.

For a family of four eating one mango each per day, a 4kg box of medium-grade Ratnagiri lasts four to five days comfortably. For aamras (puréed), 4kg yields roughly 2.2–2.5 kg of pulp after peeling and destoning.

Mango Season: When to Order

Ratnagiri Alphonso arrives first — mid-March in a good year, occasionally late February if the winter was dry. Devgad Alphonso follows in April, with the sweetest fruit appearing May through early June when temperatures push sugars to their peak.

Pre-order opens in February. If you place an order in January, you will receive a confirmation but no dispatch until the first harvest clears quality grading — usually the third week of March. We do not send sub-standard early-season fruit just to fill an order.

After mid-June, the monsoon breaks over Konkan and the season closes. There is no Alphonso worth buying from July onwards, and we stop dispatching rather than ship inferior fruit.

When is the Alphonso mango season in India?

March to June, with peak quality in April–May. Devgad fruit peaks slightly later than Ratnagiri, and export-quality grades are available only during a four-to-six-week window in May.

Can I buy mangoes online in December?

Not Alphonso. You can find Kesar in storage through July, but genuine GI-tagged Hapus is unavailable December through February. Pre-orders for the next season open in February on our site.

Storage After Delivery

If the mangoes arrive firm-ripe (shoulder yields slightly), keep them at room temperature and eat within two days. If they arrive green-firm — which sometimes happens with long transit to the Northeast — leave them on the kitchen counter, never in the fridge, for 24–36 hours.

Refrigeration below 12°C damages Alphonso. The cold breaks down the aromatic compounds and turns the flesh stringy. Once cut, store in an airtight container at 4–6°C and eat within 12 hours.

How long does a 4kg mango box last?

At room temperature (25–28°C), fully ripe Alphonso lasts 2–3 days. Firm-ripe fruit lasts 4–5 days before peaking. Never freeze raw Alphonso — freeze the pulp instead, after blending with a pinch of cardamom.
