Alphonso mango online in Kochi
Kochi has been a trading port for centuries, but Alphonso has never been a local crop. It grows on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra, at the other end of the western seaboard. Buyers in Kochi, Ernakulam and the rest of Kerala who want it order it from the source. In Kerala the name is spelt in many ways: Alphonsa, Alphansa, Alphonso, Hapus, and in Malayalam അൽഫോൻസോ മാമ്പഴം.

We source our Alphonso across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt. We hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139), and the details are on our Brand Facts page. The fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, and harvest is done before dawn, at Brahma Muhurta. The order pages are Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango and Devgad Alphonso Mango.
Alphonso and Kerala mangoes
Kerala has mangoes of its own, and Kerala households have strong views on them. Moovandan, a local variety, is a familiar name, and Palakkad district, around Muthalamada, is known for its mango orchards. Kerala families also pickle raw mango and use it in curries throughout the year, so the fruit is not new to the kitchen.

Alphonso is a different kind of mango. It is usually smaller than many southern varieties, it is strongly fragrant, and its pulp is described as rich, creamy and non-fibrous. Most Kerala buyers order it for eating fresh, for gifts, and for desserts. The table lays out the differences, without ranking the fruit.
| Point | Alphonso (Hapus) | Kerala local mangoes such as Moovandan |
|---|---|---|
| Home region | Ratnagiri and Devgad belt, Konkan, Maharashtra | Kerala, including the Palakkad belt |
| Usually bought for | Eating fresh, gifts, desserts | Eating, pickles and cooking |
| Our listing | Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso, from Rs 1,849 per dozen | Not part of our range |
| Weight of a fruit | Roughly 150 to 300 g | Varies by tree and variety |
If you want to try another mango from us as well, Kesar Mango is a Gujarat mango with saffron-orange pulp, with the half-dozen at Rs 999 and the dozen at Rs 1,699. Our note on types of mangoes available in India describes more varieties.
Choosing a box
Boxes start from Rs 1,849 per dozen, and the largest Ratnagiri option goes up to Rs 5,399. A dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade, so we do not quote a price per kilo. Check the product page for the price of your size. There is no GST on fresh mangoes, and the invoice shows this.
- For a family in Kochi: a medium grade dozen is a good start.
- For Onam, Vishu or a house-warming gift: a larger grade looks better in the box.
- For milkshakes and payasam-style desserts: a smaller grade, or the pulp tin.
Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso are the same variety. Ratnagiri is a district, Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district, and we do not rank one above the other. If you want to read more, see our page on Ratnagiri vs Devgad Alphonso mango.

Keeping mangoes in Kerala weather

Kerala is humid for most of the year, and ripe mangoes do not wait. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. The fruit keeps ripening after it reaches you, so check it daily. Keep the mangoes in a single layer at room temperature, away from direct sun. Smell near the stalk and press gently at the shoulder. When a fruit is as soft as you like, eat it or move it to the fridge for a short time. Do not refrigerate hard, unripe fruit.
Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide gas is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. Ask any seller how the fruit was ripened, and ask for the answer in writing. No home test, including the water or bucket test, proves how a mango was ripened. See our guide to identifying carbide-free mangoes online.
Mangoes are a source of vitamin C: 100 g of raw mango provides about 36 mg, roughly 40% of the Daily Value. If you have diabetes or another condition, ask your doctor or dietitian how much mango suits you.
