If you are buying Alphonso mango in Nagpur for the first time, Devgad is the safer choice for peak flavour. The coastal laterite soil of Devgad — villages like Phansawale and Mithmumbri — produces a fruit with fibre-free pulp and a saffron-deep colour that Ratnagiri fruit, good as it is, doesn't quite match at the top grades.
Delivery to Nagpur
Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.
The fruit travels in corrugated boxes with individual mango cups and wood-wool padding — no loose stacking. If mangoes arrive under-ripe (which can happen with early-season fruit), leave them at room temperature for 1–2 days wrapped in newspaper. They will ripen naturally, exactly as the growers intended.
One honest limit: we do not deliver to Nagpur (or anywhere) between July and January. The Alphonso season ends. The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.

Nagpur and the Alphonso Question
Nagpur is India's Orange City — named for the Nagpuri santra, not the mango. The city sits at the geographic centre of India, marked by a zero-milestone sandstone pillar near the GPO. It produces fine citrus. It does not grow Alphonso.
That gap is precisely why search volume for "alphonso mango nagpur" spikes every April. Nagpur residents know mangoes — the local market fills with Totapuri, Pairi, and Langda from nearby districts — but the GI Alphonso from the Konkan coast is a separate category. The salt-laden sea breeze off the Arabian Sea, the laterite and alluvial soil mix, and 48 coastal villages across Ratnagiri and Devgad produce conditions that central Maharashtra's Vidarbha region simply cannot replicate.
So Nagpur buyers do what any sensible food lover does: they order online.
Where the Mango Actually Comes From
Prashant Powle sources from 48 villages across Ratnagiri and Devgad talukas. Villages like Velas, Bankot, and Phansawale supply fruit that goes through hand-grading on the orchard floor before packing. No conveyor belts, no mechanised sizing. Each mango is individually checked for skin integrity, colour uniformity, and stem condition.
Devgad's coastal microclimate — consistent humidity, night cooling, and the absence of the hot Vidarbha winds that scorch crops inland — keeps the fruit's sugar development slow and even. That slowness is why Devgad Alphonso at 20+ Brix doesn't taste cloying: the acid-sugar balance holds.
What is the Brix level of Devgad Alphonso?
Devgad Alphonso measures 16–22 Brix at full ripeness. Export-grade fruit from peak season (late April to mid-May) consistently hits 19–22 Brix. Ratnagiri fruit from the same period reads 15–19 Brix.
Is Alphonso mango grown in Nagpur?
No. Alphonso (Hapus) with GI certification grows only in specific coastal talukas of Ratnagiri, Devgad, Rajapur, and adjacent Sindhudurg district. Nagpur's climate — hot summers, extreme diurnal temperature swings, no coastal humidity — does not support authentic Hapus cultivation.
How to Spot a Real GI Alphonso
GI No. 139 (Registry Certificate 4163, issued 16 October 2019) covers Alphonso mangoes from the designated Konkan belt. A legitimate GI Alphonso has three visible markers:
- A thin, smooth skin with no rough pitting — unlike Langda or Dasheri, which have coarser skin texture.
- A saffron-yellow skin tone at full ripeness, not green patches or uneven orange blotches (which usually signal carbide use).
- A turpentine-free aroma at the stem end. Hold the mango at the tip and smell the stem cavity. Real Hapus smells of fresh honey and mild floral notes. No chemical sharpness.
What to avoid: mangoes sold as "Alphonso" in Nagpur's local markets that arrive green and ripen to an uneven orange. These are almost always Totapuri or an unnamed local variety sold under the Hapus name. The price difference — ₹30–₹50 per piece in the market versus the current price on our product page — tells you the story before you taste it.
How do I verify GI authenticity?
Ask the seller for their GI Authorised User number. Ours is AU/5974/GI/139/260, registered under Powle Home Foods. A seller without a GI user number cannot legally sell fruit as "GI Alphonso."
Natural Ripening — No Carbide
We use hay-bed ripening exclusively. Mangoes are harvested at the correct maturity index (skin just beginning to yellow at the shoulders), packed with dry straw in wooden crates, and allowed to ripen through their own ethylene production during transit and rest.
Calcium carbide — the banned shortcut used by a large portion of the unorganised mango trade — forces a surface colour change without developing interior sugar or flavour. The fruit looks ripe on day one, tastes flat on day two, and rots by day three. Hay-bed Hapus takes an extra day to colour fully but holds for 4–6 days once ripe, giving Nagpur buyers a real eating window.
FSSAI 10020022011783 covers our food safety compliance. APEDA registration 225579 governs our export quality standards — the same fruit that goes to Japanese buyers in Osaka comes to your door in Nagpur.
Season Window and Off-Season Reality
The Alphonso season runs February to June (peak March to May). Within that window, three phases matter to Nagpur buyers:
- March–early April: Early fruit. Smaller size, Brix around 15–17. Good value, not peak flavour.
- Mid-April–mid-May: Peak season. Largest fruit, Brix 18 to 24, full aroma. This is when to order if you want the best.
- Late May–June: Late-season Alphonso and Kesar. Alphonso supply drops; Kesar fills the gap through July.
Outside this window — July through January — we have no Alphonso to sell. The trees rest. Anyone advertising "Alphonso" in September is selling a different variety under a borrowed name.

Storage After Delivery
Mangoes arrive in one of two states: firm-ripe (ready in 1–2 days) or just-turning (ready in 3–4 days). Do not refrigerate until the fruit is fully ripe — cold storage on a firm mango stops the ripening process and leaves the flesh with a mealy, flavourless texture.
Once ripe, refrigerate and consume within 3 days. Cut mangoes, covered and stored at 4°C, hold for 24 hours without flavour loss. Beyond that, the pulp oxidises and the aroma weakens. Nagpur's summer heat (April highs of 44–46°C) means fruit left at room temperature after ripening deteriorates faster than in Mumbai's coastal temperatures — factor that into your planning.
