GI-certified Alphonso mango from Ratnagiri and Devgad delivered to Amravati

Amravati is the second-largest city in Vidarbha — known as the city of Indra, far from the Konkan coast. True GI-certified Alphonso mango has never grown here. It grows in Ratnagiri and Devgad, 600-plus kilometres west. We bring it to your door in Amravati in 1–3 days.

Powle Home Foods, operating AlphonsoMango.in, holds GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139, Registry Certificate 4163, issued 16 October 2019). Every box we send to Amravati comes from one of 55 sourcing villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts — places like Pawas, Golap and Nachane in Ratnagiri taluka, or Devgad, Jamsande and Girye in Devgad taluka.

Ratnagiri vs Devgad Alphonso: Which to Order?

Both carry GI No. 139. The difference is real but subtle. North India customers, including Amravati buyers, tend to reorder Ratnagiri; Mumbai regulars lean Devgad. That is drawn from 47,000+ customer orders, not a guess.

Attribute Ratnagiri Alphonso Devgad Alphonso
GI Certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 AU/6932 (GI No. 139)

Flavour Note Rich saffron aroma, balanced sweetness Slightly sweeter, pronounced floral nose
Box Options Half dozen, 1 dozen, 2 dozen Half dozen, 1 dozen, 2 dozen

Our grading table was not what we assumed when we started. We expected Ratnagiri Jumbo to dominate reorders. Devgad Medium actually leads on volume — buyers in cities like Amravati want the sweetness without paying Jumbo premium.

Delivery Across India

We dispatch from our Mumbai packhouse. Fruit is harvested in Ratnagiri or Devgad, air-conditioned transport brings it to Mumbai in 10–12 hours, it rests on hay for 24–48 hours, then it ships. Total harvest-to-dispatch is 48–72 hours.

Courier is BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your Amravati pin code. Metro cities typically receive within 20–24 hours of dispatch. Amravati and other Vidarbha cities: 1–3 days. We cover 15,000–17,000 serviceable pin codes.

Fruit leaves us at 70–80% ripeness — firm enough to survive transit without bruising. It finishes ripening at your home within about three days of delivery. If anything arrives damaged, photograph it within 24 hours of delivery and we replace it, 100%.

Each box is a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard courier-grade carton, 130 gsm paper, with a 12-slot partition that bears transit pressure so the fruit does not. Every mango sits in a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm) on a hay bed, with six air holes top and bottom for airflow during the final ripening stage.

How to Order

  1. Select Grade: Choose Small (150–180 g), Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g) or Jumbo (275–300 g) on the product page. Walnut Akhrot Giri is also available from ₹520 to ₹1,770 as a complementary dry fruit.
  2. Add to Cart: Pick half dozen, 1 dozen or 2 dozen — only box sizes shown on the product page apply.
  3. Dispatch: We ship via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your Amravati pin code; most Vidarbha deliveries complete in 1–3 days.

Where Alphonso Mango Actually Grows

Alphonso mangoes from Konkan delivered to Amravati Maharashtra

Alphonso (Hapus) is a GI-protected variety under GI Tag No. 139, covering Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra. Amravati sits 700-plus kilometres inland in the Vidarbha plateau — different soil, humidity and rainfall pattern entirely. No GI-tagged Alphonso grows there.

The variety's flavour depends on laterite soil, sea-facing slopes and the specific moisture cycle of the Konkan coast. Our orchards sit across villages like Pawas and Mirya in Ratnagiri taluka, and Vijaydurg and Kunkeshwar in Devgad taluka — 12-to-25-year-old trees selected by Prashant Powle for Brix consistency and alternate-bearing behaviour. A younger tree, or one on flat inland soil, simply does not produce the same fruit.

What does GI Tag No. 139 mean for a buyer in Amravati?

It means the fruit you receive has a traceable origin. Our GI Registry Certificate No. 4163 (issued 16 October 2019) and APEDA registration 225579 together mean we can export this fruit to the US, UK, UAE, Singapore and Japan — the same fruit ships to your Amravati address. The Ratnagiri Alphonso also won the Gold Medal at the national One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2024, a district-product recognition for the Ratnagiri region.

How the Fruit Is Harvested and Packed

We hand-harvest every fruit using a Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net and a cutting mechanism. The tree is never shaken. Fruit never falls to the ground. For tall trees, Prashant Powle's team uses an indigenously developed length-extending pole with a camera — the grower watches the fruit on a screen before cutting it. That level of care at harvest directly reduces stem-end bruising and latex contamination that would otherwise appear as dark spots by the time the mango reaches Amravati.

After harvest, each fruit goes through AI/ML-assisted machine scanning for internal defects (spongy tissue) and external deformities before packing at our Malvan packing centre or Devgad packing point. Every piece is weighed and graded. Fruit that does not hit the grade band for your chosen size does not go in your box.

Post-harvest, the fruit receives a controlled hot-water treatment to reduce surface issues and extend shelf life, then cooling at the packhouse before the air-conditioned road journey to Mumbai.

Natural Ripening: What Hay-Bed Means in Practice

Alphonso ripened with calcium carbide is common in Indian markets — including Amravati's local fruit stalls. Carbide speeds colour change without developing full sugar or aroma. The result looks ripe but tastes flat, and the skin blackens unevenly.

We use natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening only. At our Mumbai packhouse, fruit rests in temperature-controlled rooms on straw for 24–48 hours. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind. The process is monitored; it is not gas-triggered. Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd. (Thane, NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284) tests our mangoes weekly through the season. Their April 2025 report (ref. 01/ETHAP2500044, 5 April 2025) found all 28 residue parameters within Codex maximum residue limits; 27 of 28 were below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). One residue, thiamethoxam, was detected at 0.013 mg/kg against a Codex limit of 0.2 mg/kg — well within safe range. We describe our fruit as independently tested with all residues within Codex limits. We do not call it pesticide-free.

Nutrition You Get in One Serving

A 100 g serving of ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C. That is about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 recommended daily allowance for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Alphonso also contains mangiferin, a polyphenol with anti-inflammatory activity documented in a cell study by Govindappa et al. (2011).

Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness. It finishes ripening at your home, reaching peak Brix of 18–24° within about three days of delivery — closer to 24° for Devgad fruit at the height of the season.

Is Alphonso mango pulp suitable for babies?

Alphonso puree is suitable as a first fruit for babies from about six months. Keep it as a serving suggestion, not medical advice — check with your paediatrician if you have questions about introduction timing.

Season and Availability

Fresh Alphonso mango is available from February to June, with peak quality and volume in March, April and May. We do not sell fresh Alphonso from July to January. If you are reading this outside that window, you can still order Alphonso mango pulp or aamras, and dry fruits like our Walnut Akhrot Giri (₹520–₹1,770), which ships year-round.

The 2026 season brought real weather stress. Prashant Powle spoke to The Economic Times in June 2026 about the yield pressure that season described as an existential crisis for Alphonso growers (read the article). Lower yield means tighter supply, which affects what we can commit to. If you want guaranteed boxes, ordering in March before the peak is the practical choice.

Around 18% of our orders are gifts. If you are sending Alphonso mango to someone in Amravati — for a birthday, a festival, or a corporate occasion — we can dispatch directly to their address. For corporate orders of five dozen and above, contact us separately for HoReCa pricing.

Which city is famous for Alphonso Mango in India?

Ratnagiri is the city most closely identified with Alphonso mango in India. The fruit holds GI Tag No. 139, covering Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra's Konkan coast. Devgad, a taluka in Sindhudurg, is equally well known among buyers who prefer a slightly sweeter, more floral fruit with Brix readings typically at the upper end of 18–24°.

What fruit is Amravati famous for?

Amravati in Vidarbha is best known for oranges — the Vidarbha region produces a significant share of Maharashtra's citrus crop. Alphonso mango does not grow here. GI-certified Alphonso (Hapus) is a Konkan fruit, grown 600-plus kilometres west in Ratnagiri and Devgad, and shipped to Amravati in 1–3 days during the March-to-June season.

Is Alphonso mango grown in Maharashtra?

Yes, Alphonso mango is grown exclusively in Maharashtra — specifically in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts along the Konkan coast. GI Tag No. 139 legally defines this origin. The fruit depends on laterite soil, sea-facing slopes and the Konkan coast's humidity cycle. No other region in Maharashtra, including Amravati or the Vidarbha plateau, produces GI-certified Alphonso.
