Alphonso mangoes Amravati — GI-tagged Hapus from Konkan delivered to your door

Amravati sits in Vidarbha, about 650 km from the Konkan coast where GI Alphonso grows. No orchard in Amravati produces genuine Hapus. What local markets sell as Alphonso is mostly grafted fruit from central Maharashtra — good mango, but not GI-tagged Konkan Hapus.

We dispatch directly from our Ratnagiri and Devgad packhouses. Fruit travels by air-conditioned transport to our Mumbai packhouse, ripens naturally on a hay bed for 24–48 hours, then ships to Amravati. Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.

We've served 47,000+ customers since 2019 across India, the US, UK, UAE, Singapore and Japan. Amravati orders ship regularly every season — we know the transit corridors well.

Ratnagiri vs Devgad — Which to Choose

Customer pattern Popular with north India orders Mumbai's preference historically
Grade options Small, Medium, Extra Large, Jumbo Small, Medium, Extra Large, Jumbo

Our repeat-order data across 47,000+ customers shows Vidarbha buyers lean toward Ratnagiri — likely because the brighter aroma reads as "classic Hapus" to buyers who first tasted it at a relative's home in Mumbai. That said, Devgad delivers more sugar density. Try both across a season if you can.

Delivery Across India

Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness — firm enough to survive transit, ripe within about three days of delivery. The 12-slot partition inside the 5-ply corrugated box carries transit pressure so the fruit doesn't. Every mango sits in a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm, length 100–120 mm by fruit size) on a hay bed.

Transit-damaged or quality-failed fruit is replaced with a fresh dispatch or credited to your account. Report within 24 hours of delivery with photos or video on WhatsApp — no physical return required.

One honest limitation: we do not sell fresh Alphonso between July and January. The season ends in June. If you order in August expecting fresh Hapus, we can't help — and no credible seller can either.

How to Order

  1. Select grade: Choose Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso from the mangoes collection and pick your weight grade — Small (150–180 g), Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g) or Jumbo (275–300 g).
  2. Add to cart: Select a half dozen, 1 dozen or 2 dozen box. Larger quantities suit corporate or family gifting — 18% of our orders are gifts.

Where GI Alphonso Actually Comes From

Alphonso mangoes from Konkan delivered to Amravati

GI No. 139 covers Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts in the Konkan belt of Maharashtra. That's it. No other region can legally label its fruit as GI Alphonso.

We source from 48 coastal villages of Ratnagiri and Devgad. In Ratnagiri taluka: Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mavalange, Mirya and Kalbadevi, among others. In Devgad taluka (Sindhudurg): Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Padel, Girye and more. Our 100+ partner farmer families run orchards typically 12–25 years old, selected by Prashant Powle on Brix consistency and alternate-bearing management.

Harvest matters as much as soil. Fruit is hand-picked using a Nutan/Zela pole with a catching net — the tree is never shaken and the mango never falls. For tall trees, an indigenously developed camera-fitted pole extends the reach. A bruise at harvest shows up as a black spot by the time the fruit reaches Amravati. We spend effort here precisely because transit quality depends on it.

What is the Brix level of Devgad Alphonso?

Devgad Alphonso registers 18–24° Brix at full ripeness, typically at the upper end of that range. Ratnagiri Alphonso also reaches 18–24° Brix. Both are measured at the Mumbai packhouse before dispatch.

Are mangoes sold in Amravati local markets GI-certified?

Almost certainly not. GI No. 139 is specific to Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. Fruit sold in Vidarbha markets as "Alphonso" or "Hapus" is usually a different variety. The GI tag, FSSAI number and Authorised User certificate are the only documentary proof of origin.

Natural Ripening — What It Means in Practice

Every fruit we send to Amravati ripens on a hay bed — no ethylene chamber, no calcium carbide, no artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours at our Mumbai packhouse is monitored natural ripening, not gas-triggered. This is called Aadi ripening in Konkan farming practice.

We also run post-harvest hot-water treatment after harvest to reduce surface issues and extend shelf life, followed by cooling at the packhouse before the air-conditioned run to Mumbai.

Residue testing is done weekly through the season by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane (NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284). The April 2025 report — certificate 01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025 — tested 28 residues. All were within Codex maximum residue limits. Twenty-seven of 28 were below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). One residue, thiamethoxam, was detected at 0.013 mg/kg against a Codex limit of 0.2 mg/kg. We say "independently tested, all residues within Codex limits" — not "pesticide-free."

Before packing, every fruit is weighed, graded and passed through AI/ML-assisted machine scanning that checks for internal issues (spongy tissue) and external deformities. A mango that fails that scan doesn't ship.

Season Window and Availability

Alphonso season runs February to June. Peak months are March, April and May. By late June, the crop is finished. We do not sell fresh Alphonso from July to January — and we won't pretend otherwise.

The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.

The 2026 season drew coverage in The Economic Times, where Prashant Powle was interviewed as a GI-certified Alphonso grower and trader on weather impact and yield pressure — a reminder that every season is genuinely different from the last.

Nutrition

Alphonso mango health benefits including vitamin C and mangiferin

Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 RDA for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day).

Alphonso also contains mangiferin, a polyphenol studied by Govindappa et al. (2011) for anti-inflammatory activity in cell studies. That's a cell study, not a clinical trial — we won't overstate it.

Alphonso puree is suitable as a first fruit for babies from about 6 months. Keep that as a serving suggestion, not medical guidance.

We recommend eating 2–3 mangoes per day during the season, not a whole box in one sitting — blood sugar matters, and Alphonso at 18–24° Brix is genuinely sweet.

People Also Ask

What is the cost of 1 kg Alphonso mango?

GI Alphonso price varies by grade, variety and season. Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso are sold in half dozen, 1 dozen or 2 dozen boxes — not loose by the kilogram — because individual fruit weight runs 150 to 300 g depending on grade. Check current pricing at AlphonsoMango.in during the February to June season.

What fruit is Amravati famous for?

Amravati sits in Vidarbha and is known for oranges grown in that region, not Alphonso mangoes. GI Alphonso grows only in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts along the Konkan coast — roughly 650 km from Amravati. What local markets sell as Hapus is usually grafted fruit from central Maharashtra, not GI-tagged Konkan Alphonso.

How much do Alphonso mangoes cost?

Alphonso mango prices shift week to week through the February to June season based on yield, grade and fruit size. Small grade (150–180 g) costs less per box than Jumbo grade (275–300 g). Devgad Alphonso typically prices slightly above Ratnagiri because of higher sugar density and limited orchard area. Check live pricing during the season.

Can you find Alphonso mangoes in the US?

Yes. GI Alphonso is exported to the US, UK, UAE, Singapore and Japan. Powle Home Foods (operating AlphonsoMango.in) ships internationally and has served customers in the US across multiple seasons. Fruit is APEDA-registered (APEDA 225579) and independently tested, with all residues within Codex maximum residue limits, meeting export requirements.
